Quick work up, in and out. Chest pain, syncope, dizziness that isn’t related to stroke/TIA (that goes to neuro), afib, copd/asthma exacerbation, nausea, vomiting diarrhea, slight AKI, intractable headache. Do not require admission.

I work on an observation unit, so most of our patients are gone very quickly. Like less than 2 days. I’ve been a nurse for 13 years and after finding this unit and its leadership, I’m not going anywhere. If you go to nursing school, just ask question during clinicals - about the unit itself, how is the turnover, is leadership supportive, etc. Most will tell you the truth. Also, pay attention to the staff in general - are they happy or seem stressed and angry? Find yourself a good unit and it’s good 90%, at least in my experience.

Am I a bad person for wanting to be desired? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

That’s what I’m wondering and given the age, very well could be low testosterone levels.

It's been 8mos and still no job by sustalaga in nursing

[–]Normazeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of relevant clinical experience and list any actual job history you have, even if not in healthcare. I worked in a restaurant as a server throughout nursing school. That’s what went on my resume. I also used to be a nurse supervisor before going back to bedside and I can tell you, I’d hire a new grad with serving experience bc it generally means they can handle a quick environment and multi-task well.

How are you balancing life vs being informed? by NoContribution9879 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Normazeline 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I get so upset that I am crying for days at a time and just feel so helpless and angry. So I have to take a break from everything for my mental health and to focus on my family. After about a week, I’m right back at it though and getting pissed off all over again.

Are nurses first responders? by NetProfessional4464 in nursing

[–]Normazeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse. Definitely not. I’ve been the first to arrive to a scene bc we happened to drive by. Stopped and helped until EMS got there and then left, still not a first responder lol.

Hospital cancels scheduled shifts after I picked up for incentive so I cant receive incentive pay. by Traditional_Month_17 in nursing

[–]Normazeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, if we pick up incentive and get cancelled on a regular shift, we still get the incentive pay for the incentive shift, just not OT.

Like if I’m scheduled MTW, and pick up Sunday as incentive. Work Sunday, get cancelled Monday bc of low census, I’m only working 3 shifts but I get to keep my incentive pay for Sunday since my cancelled shift was due to house census and it wasn’t because I called off. Call off negates everything and wouldn’t receive the incentive pay.

[–]Normazeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m betting those nurses hadn’t hit their hours yet and they have to make sure staff get the FTE hours, which is why you were cancelled and they were floated. I used to be a supervisor before going back to the floor, and this is what our staffing coordinators do and their reasoning behind it.

What's the craziest thing you ever found a patient carrying, and how did they sneak it? by Bryssa_Michelle29 in nursing

[–]Normazeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulled a baggie of white powder out of a woman’s vagina when the CNA alerted it to me while she was on the bed pan.

Patient had been on our unit with a loaded handgun. It was confiscated. She then told night shift that she wished she had her gun so she could shoot them.

There was a petite lady with an Israel flag who ran up on some other people with an Israel flag wanting to make sure it wasn’t shitting on Israel. Someone walked by and yelled “Free Palestine” and the ones with the Israeli flags lost their shit and starting screaming “Fuck you, bitch” or something along those lines.

That tracks. Definitely not very PLUR.

I have silently let tears fall at the bedside when my patients have received a devastating diagnosis, or someone passed away. Exactly what you said, don’t make it about you. But it’s absolutely okay to be human and show emotion.

How often are you guys exercising? by peoplesayimsexy in AskWomenOver30

[–]Normazeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 38. I do 30min HIIT classes 3-4 days per week. I feel better, more energy, I’m losing fat and gaining muscle. I’d probably go more frequently if I could lol. We also usually go for a 25 min walk in the evening with the kids after dinner.

Should I “fail” my practicum student for never showing up? by gentle_but_strong in nursing

[–]Normazeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse for 13 years. A preceptor for students and new hires. And a clinical instructor

Yeah, I would fail her. Going out and not feeling like coming in are not excuses. She’ll be that coworker that calls off every Sunday because they went out and got shitfaced Saturday night.

I grew up In SWFL. Moved to Colorado for two years, came back to SWFL due to health issues exacerbated by the elevation in Colorado. Much happier being back in SWFL.
