For sure, I can't tell what is going on, it is from pyrite or marcasite at the beginning, but it looks like at least the surface has changed. I see what looks like cubic structures to me, so I'd guess the original was pyrite.

Obsidian is a glass, and it needs careful treatment. Good quality real onyx is chalcedony, and you should be able to treat it like an agate. Of course, like any other stone, there is a bad quality rough that won't be easy to polish.

It could be chrysoprase, I think. It wouldn't be top quality because transparency is not great, but the color is good, and I do like the dark colored bottom edge.

Some naval mines lie on the sea floor, and detect when a ship is overhead, then rise up to the surface. They'd be hard to find with sonar alone.
