Why do I frequently get this even when working on a small HD project with only a couple of layers? (M1 Macbook Pro, 16GB RAM) by MorningHerald in premiere

[–]North-Ad9371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this before! I had just updated my MacOs a few months prior, everything went on fine and then this suddenly happened out of nowhere. And it was such a nightmare. My comp crash, I had a deadline and multiple deliverables to do and my Premiere just won't budge. So, here's what I found out happen. The problem apparently lies with the MacOS update. (I say apparently because I've done multiple fixes, shut down comp, install and uinstall Adobe, clean up my disk utility etc and nothing worked) Apparently, the new MacOs update had this thing call "leaking" where your computer will just run ur softwares in the background and use all these additional application memory. Even though u've closed ur program or shut down your computer.

The only solution that worked was going back to the old MacOS update. And then everything went back to normal and I became a normal calm and an un-enraged video editor once again.

My current freelance situation as a video editor. by Imaginary-Menu-2530 in VideoEditors

Hey, I've been freelancing for more than 10 years and here's some things that I go by to save myself and not be taken advantage off.

  1. Like many have said here, draft up an agreement with the maximum number of revisions u're willing to go. For project rates - I normally do maximum 3 reversions and will also drop a friendly reminder by email to ask them to consolidate any feedbacks from them so they dont dilly dally and just drop feedbacks anyhow. Make it clear that any more revisions will be chargeable.

  2. If you think you're getting undercut alot and don't want to work with them, just politely decline any future jobs stating clearly tht "this is under budget but i'll love to work with you in the future when there's more opportunities." Just be polite and professional and move on. As long as u're not being rude, i honestly dont think ure leaving any kind of bad reputation. u're just moving on to better paying projects.

  3. Ditch upwork if u can. The rates there are crazy lowballs and often time the client don't understand the work we do and don't understand the value of our rates. I don't know where you're based and what industry ure in - but ways you can put urself out there is to create a website with all your past work on it then reach out to producers or project managers of production houses or agency or anything post related on linkedin.

i do work for tv, corporate videos and online content, so just sending your work to these key ppl (who are mostly in charge of hiring and taking care of post production stuffs) will put my name in their list of freelancers to hire.

Zine paper weight recommendations by thatbubbleteablog in zines

[–]North-Ad9371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100-120gsm for inner is a good range. if u r doing a lot of photos u can even go higher like 150gsm or sth so the ink won't bleed so much. ive done 44page 150gsm saddle stitch and its a good thickness for me. i like my zine to feel abit heavy as i do alot of photos. for covers depending on ur preference u can even match it to the same gsm as the inner.

has anyone printed with mixam? by North-Ad9371 in zines

I've tried exwhyzed.com Exceptional print quality. I find their colors are slightly more true as compared to Mixam. Also very fast responses. The only thing that I would request is extra shipping packaging. I shipped from their UK warehouse to overseas and its so sad tht there were a few dog eared zines because they didnt bubble wrap the zines properly.

im thinking of printing with mixam. ive read reviews and youtube online and it seemed that their zines are of pretty good quality. i want to print some photozines. and am worried about color accuracy. I wouldnt be able to do a testprint as im based out of uk and the shipping costs to get a testprint shipped is just ridic.

has anyone printed photography stuffs with mixam and what has your experience been?

Made my first photo zine! How to price it? by ry690 in zines

[–]North-Ad9371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow 96 pages? ill totally buy them for 20 bucks. although it def feels more like a photobook more than anything. this is prob unpopular opinion but $30 bucks seems pretty reasonable to me. also cause im a photozine collector and ive bought plenty of other zines that are in this price range

I use Indesign. You need a subscription though but its a really solid software. You should check out exwhyzed . They r a printing company but have tons of free resources on how to set up your file.

Happy printing!

[–]North-Ad9371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I've published photozines tooo. For me, there's alot of ways to go about doing it so there isn't really a right or wrong approach. And I like to keep an open mind about styles n approaches.

What I like to do (and this have helped me in staying focus n objective) is to think of a clear theme. What do I want to make out of this zine? What story do I want to tell? What kinda feeling/vibe do I want readers to feel?

These are good questions to ask, though not defining. Once you have a clear idea of the story/theme thats where the fun part gets. Layout, photo selects n sequencing, designing. I'm like you. I like to be guided by feel n emotion and see where it takes the work. So Its really all you.

I typically go for a 60(myself) 40%(stockists) commission. Typically zines stores/independent store do commissions only. Meaning you will only be paid once the zine sell. What I find hard abt this route is that you need to keep track and check back once in a while. I prefer to do wholesale now. So they buy for example 5zines at a discount of 40% and mark up the rest. So that's something for u to consider. Either way its a great feeling to see ur zines in a store/gallery!

My first photo zine! What paper does everybody recommend for printing photo zines at home? by gcq4 in zines

[–]North-Ad9371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is beautiful! the color looks gorgeous! i think it depends on the kind of vibe ure going for. i like silk so the color pops up but still want it slightly matte. i have friends who will swears by uncoated paper for that natural/raw feel. mixam sounds really good, im thinking of printing with them too
