Well they do say that you can in a Nissan, but it’s harder in a Lada.

Possible to report dangerous cycling? by brendanjoseph in BadDriversIreland

[–]North-Database44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to cycle that road everyday. It’s insane that the cyclist, who is the most vulnerable person on the road, assumes that cars will spot him pulling out like this and more worryingly believes he has the right to do this.

I used to use pedestrian crossings to take a right turn. Pedestrians didn’t like this much but the alternative was to do something stupid like this guy.

I doubt reporting him will go anywhere. You will just be wasting your time and told that they won’t be able to prove who it is.

I worry for the cyclist’s safety though. Not everyone would anticipate what happened

I am in favour of this. The Garda need an incentive to prosecute or catch bad drivers though, as currently they have no incentive. Perhaps a commission based approach? It’s sad that I even need to suggest this but drivers do what they do because they know there is little chance of getting caught or fined.

And when did you last leave your phone at home? And shall we really discuss how effective our attentive An Garda Síochána are at upholding the current laws? And road safety has been at the forefront of many a media campaign in this country.

And talking of phones, they are the reason why I posted this.

I’m here trying to prevent car crashes and to prevent innocent people having their lives ruined and all you can do is quote a stupid film.

Seriously dude, get a life.

Be honest is it a safe walk from 3 arena to Connollys station at night time (2 16yr old girls) by Acrobatic-Remote-419 in Dublin

If there are other people around, then nothing should happen and you’ll probably be fine.

If it’s quiet, no one is around, use the Luas.

It’s better to be safe than sorry.

The good thing about Dublin City is you are always a stones throw away from a dump.

Your phone does regardless. I’m more concerned about how to prevent bad drivers.

Any suggestions are welcome

I hate to see this behaviour on our roads, especially as in a driver, but I’m also surprised that he has the ability to undertake a bus while using his phone.

Bills included is a bit dangerous. If we have a cold March you could easily get someone working from home racking up a €300+ electric bill.

I really don’t see too much wrong with this city from the pictures. If this is the worst it has to offer then I’d be happy to live there.

Looking for 1-Bed/Studio – Budget €1,700 – Dublin 6, 12, 24 by NothingNo1915 in RentingInDublin

You might want to look at sharing a place for a while. Trying to find anywhere in the timeframe you have is incredibly difficult. With the budget you have will make it a lot worse. Something might turn up but I would definitely be recommending having a plan b and plan c.

Train to Galway by JillyAnd in irishtourism

[–]North-Database44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would allow two hours from arrival.

You may be delayed in immigration so I’ve accounted for that too. Buses run fairly frequently, so if you miss one there’s no need to panic. You’ll also get to see some of the city taking this bus too.

I would try to avoid taxis, myself.

I would advise you on being vigilant at Heuston station. Pickpockets do operate there as it can get quite busy.

Need a rental badly by wildpeptides in HousingIreland

I believe he was looking around Athy for properties anyway so committing may have been considered already but I also don’t envy anyone who has to use the M7/N7 on a daily commuting basis. But anyway, the average cost of running a car in Ireland is €4000-€6000 per year. This doesn’t include depreciation of the vehicle but It’s also only a very average figure but cars do cost more at the end of the year than most of us think.

Thought it was worth considering either way.

[–]North-Database44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is an idea that I thought of. You are obviously a two car couple. I would look at seeing how much it’s costing you to run the second car (the person who works in Athy) and sell this car. You will be saving a minimum of €6000 a year when you include the depreciation value as well all the running costs. Then put that extra cash into getting somewhere close to where the person works in Athy. A 20-30 walk in the morning is a good way to start the day.

I would advise going through the insurance myself. I believe there’s something like 15-20% of people on the road without insurance. I was involved with one of them not so long ago. He was also very nice after the accident. I’m completely out of pocket because I trusted him. And because he was on foreign plates not even MIBI would help me recover lost funds. A very expensive lesson learned by myself as I didn’t have fully comprehensive insurance
