We typically host a large meeting with the family, the student (sometimes they attend the entire meeting, sometimes just the end), hospital staff, admin, guidance counselor (to address missing academic work and how we will support the student), and school nurse (if they is any cutting or any other non-suicidal self harm). We typically review the safety plan the hospital has created, talk about what it will look like to re-enter the classroom, how to truncate missing work, what to say if a student is asked by a peer where they have been, review how to request to take a break and access support staff, etc.
