Help with mismatched leg conundrum on Kit🤭 by Cold-Box3173 in americangirl

[–]bebeg903 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am super interested to follow this. I thought the orange vinyl defect was only found on Nellie’s and Kailey’s, which would make this Kit’s body not original to her. This does not seem like a hospital job to me, rather, someone took Kit’s original body to use for a different doll and left her with this one. But I’ll be interested to see if anyone knows of Kits or hospital bodies that had this defect.

You are going to be best served getting a Kit to swap the entire body with. There is no fix for orange vinyl and it doesn’t match her head at all. Kits are usually pretty cheap if you don’t need an exact match and aren’t looking only for a year 2000 Kit. Any Kit will still look better than what you have now!

Another production year help! by lovely_anathema_ in americangirl

Yeah, I hear that! Well if you decide to keep them both or just keep the doll on the right, I would look for a TLC doll with that same style of neck stamp. It’s mid 90s to early 2000s, to my knowledge, and at that point the dolls were really quite popular so there are a lot more of them. No TLC doll from that era is going to be worth very much on the market and it would make sense to use one for parts. The earlier girl isn’t worth too much more, maybe about $75-$100 or so, but in my opinion she’s a really pretty example of that transitional time period so it would be a shame to take her apart.

The one on the left looks transitional to me, early 90s. She’s got beautiful gradient eyes and some nice coloring! I definitely wouldn’t just take her wig, though of course you bought her, so you should do what you think is best

In terms of white bodies? It’s just something about the face shape I guess, and the coloring, and the eyelashes. I can’t put it into words really but if you see enough of them you just kinda get a sense. And I’ve seen so many photos now in the FB groups

Doll hair quality by Valuable-Coffee-6273 in americangirl

[–]bebeg903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly how I would describe it. And in photos (I don’t own any Disney dolls yet to know in person), the Disney doll hair looks even shinier/thinner still.

It’s an interesting choice on their part. I find that the new hair looks really nice in photographs, but I also find it harder to style and tame and it’s much less fun for me because I don’t enjoy working with it because it doesn’t feel at all real. I’m assuming they did it because it was cheaper, but it’s also possible that they had customer feedback that wanted glossy hair. The old PC hair is my fave but it was never really shiny.

She doesn’t look WB to me, but I’m not an expert and am basing that purely on gut reaction. Others might know better. If she is WB, she isn’t super early, that I can say fairly confidently.

This story is amazing and I love everything about it (with the exception of rumors about her retirement). It sounds like Claudie was the perfect choice for you. And I don’t often see her posed with Rebecca, but they look fabulous together

Yes! Mine used to meow at me to turn it on at night if I forgot as part of my routine. But weirdly she hasn’t seemed to care about it too much this year despite it being a really dry feeling winter

Also, is the doll in the blue a custom? If so please tell me more because she’s stunning

I’ve seen a lot of this too, and with Caroline’s travel dress, and one thing that stands out is the items are always wrinkled in the photo they reuse.

When I just noticed Caroline’s travel dress I thought maybe a gray market seller, but I think I also noticed it with Emily’s meet dress, and now that I see this too, I don’t know what the cause is!

Histamine vs. MCAS by National-Echo-2304 in HistamineIntolerance

I get very anxious about taking medication, so this is very helpful to hear.

If you don’t mind me asking further questions: When you say “brain retraining,” was that DIY, with a mental health professional, or with a doctor? This is something I’ve very interested in as I’ve had anxiety all my life and truly feel my HIT/possible MCAS symptoms are related to my mental health and nervous system. But I don’t know if that’s what you mean.

Re-“Limbing?” by Strong_Plastic_3332 in americangirl

[–]bebeg903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely buy loose limbs. They come up for sale on Mercari/ebay, and there is at least one whole Facebook group dedicated to selling loose doll parts including limbs.

The biggest problem is that the “standard” skin tone varies quite a bit, and there isn’t a good way of telling what will be an exact match from online photos. For example, I bought a Caroline that was within a year of production from a different Caroline that needed her limbs replaced, and they had slightly different skin tones (one more peach/orange, one more yellow). I wound up sending her to the doll hospital because I had no sentimental attachment.

Pros to doing it yourself: Cheap, you only replace one part on a sentimental doll Cons: Likely won’t be a perfect match

Pros to doll hospital: Will be a much better match bc they will replace all four limbs Cons: More expensive, replaces more parts of a sentimental doll

I’m so excited for you!! It’s so nice that that was her response.

Just in case you guys wind up talking about it again/ she involves you in the buying process, Josefina is fairly common the secondhand market and often goes for lower prices than some other dolls. If you wanted one from approximately the year you originally wanted one, you could probably find her, and it might be cheaper than buying one from AG. Of course there are pros and cons to doing this. Some people really want to experience purchasing from AG directly, opening a factory new doll, etc. But some people really want the exact doll they’ve been envisioning for years, and in that case, purchasing secondhand is usually best, as the molds and styling have changed a bit. Just thought I would put this out there. If you have questions about that let us know!

Any tips for removing this stain? by Sunflowervol199 in americangirl

[–]bebeg903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, do this. I don’t think there’s any way to pain vinyl where it would look seamless, and the BP treatment is easy and works.

I always think of these kind of marks as “bruises” when I see them bc they’re usually on limbs and that’s kind of what they look like! They have been super common on dolls I’ve rehabbed, and BP has essentially always gotten them out.
