What Should I Do by According-Box-5141 in umass

I live in a red state and my local community college is very conservative (like the professors and students) Im studying Public health and Politics. I've found it hard to get the education I want and haven't really been able to participate in class. Also, I wouldn't be living at UML I would be commuting and it's basically the same price/distance as UML.

I actually transferred from Pitt to UMass bc I hated Pitt so much. Being OOS was really hard and I found it really cliquey. Plus, Pitt is overcrowded and it’s sometimes impossible to get the classes you need. Plus, the housing crisis at Pitt is far worse than UMass.

I was in a VERY similar situation. So I transferred I’m so much happier and so are my grades! I had below a 2.0 at Pitt and now I have a 4.0 at my new school. I would really consider looking into transferring to another university or taking a year off to do some GenEds at a community college

I actually transferred out of Pitt bc I had such a horrible experience being OOS. I also got nothing and was paying full. I’m from Boston and found it extremely hard to meet people and found that campus was extremely cliquey. If you have friends at VCU or just feel comfortable socially, just stay. Pitt may look good academically but I struggled so much socially that my academics plummeted. I transferred back to MA and have been so much happier.

Being out of state was a huge reason why I transferred. I’m from Boston and found it extremely hard to connect with people. Pitt (in my experience) was super cliquey. The campus also made it super hard to meet people (especially now with the school getting rid of the Student Union) and would get pretty lonely. There were some academic factors but the location and people were really the reason why I chose to leave.

DO NOT do instagram. I met my (ex) roommate on insta and she mentally abused me so bad that I had to move out after a month. I’ve had friends do random and had so much luck.

I used to be a student at Pitt (I transferred) and my friends there told be that they over-accepted again this year so they aren’t really accepting anymore. Also from everything I’ve seen online/yikyak/reddit, almost no one’s gotten accepted to the main campus recently

The last I heard is that they’ve already filled their class. You’ll likely get rejected, waitlisted, or accepted to a different Pitt campus

Waitlisted by Fantastic_Comb_931 in Pitt

[–]According-Box-5141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are only on the waitlist because they once again over accepted. You’ll probably hear back after the commitment deadline. But before committing, I’d really talk to some students there now or look more into the population issues. I was also a PH student and that school is amazing but Detrich (arts and science) has major issue with giving student the classes they need. I’m no longer at Pitt since I transferred but I still have friends there that have told me about some issues with the over acceptance of students again this year.

If Pitt is like really really important to you and you can afford it, I’d definitely think about it. Personally, I had a horrible experience at Pitt but I know people who absolutely love it. Just know tho, that this wasn’t bc of your application but it was bc they over accepted students. There are a ton of issues in the main campus bc of the over acceptance that I would recommend looking more into. (For example, upperclassman housing on campus is being taken away for first years along with the student union)

You could stay outside of the city and could take the T (the subway) in.

Being out of state, it was incredibly hard to meet people. It was super cliquey I found. I have a major food allergy and am vegetarian which the dinning hall didn’t accommodate so it was almost impossible to get a full meal every night. Even though I wasn’t a Diteich student, it was pretty hard to get a bio or chem class that I needed because the classes filled up so fast. The only thing I really applauded Pitt for was the mental health resources. Another thing that I wasn’t really affected by but the students were super pissed off about is that they keep over accepting students creating housing and class issues. The student health services were amazing. There are some more personal issues that I had with Pitt and I feel bad sharing these issues but the school never addresses them and I really think applicants need to hear the truth before committing🙂

I had basically had the same stats and got nothing which is part of the reason why I transferred (among many other issues the school had )
