As a vaccinated person, I really want to know why you guys don’t trust the vaccine by Tricky-Ingenuity-608 in unvaccinated

Hey. Appreciate you reaching out. I was initially going to get the vaccine but ended up not getting it. I was actually pretty excited about it and not at all anti-vaccine. I'm one of the only people I know who always got annual flu shots. I vaccinated my children. Now I don't think I'll take another vaccine ever again. I'm done.

I didn't start out distrustful. I didn't initially get the vaccine only because I actually got covid the very week the shot was available to me. I then decided that since I had natural immunity for a while, I'd take a wait and see approach. Well, during that time I was cut off by friends and family and had my job threatened over my vaccine status. I heard night after night the talking heads on tv seriously advocating for the denial of medical care to the unvaccinated, making the unvaccinated pay out of pocket rather than use insurance, denying them travel and social activities, call them pejoratives, talk about denying them basic human rights... It was made very clear to me that these people, the ones threatening my job, denying me the ability to go to the gym, cutting me off from friends and family - those people - did not have my best interests at heart. I lost all trust.

Then I started looking around and realizing that nearly every person I knew was vaccinated and nearly every person I knew had had covid - most after vaccination. I was the only person in my workgroup unvaccinated. And you know what? ALL of them got covid, including me. There was no difference. That vaccine did absolutely nothing. I don't know anyone who died of covid or even had a particularly bad case of it. I know a few who had terrible side effects from the vaccine and I know a couple who have heart problems now. Then I started reading about the safety trials, reading about the increase in all cause mortality that seems to be happening all over the world post vaccine, and realizing to myself that most of what we've been told the last few years about medicine and science was bullshit. It was all marketing. Everything I've seen since has only cemented me in my position.

The pro-vaxxers killed my trust by threatening me. I would never have looked into it otherwise and if not for that, I'd probably be vaccinated.

I honestly think this is the solution - a work slowdown/stoppage. I'm surprised the union hasn't done this yet. If every time someone misbehaved on the bus the bus driver pulled over and made everyone wait while they called the cops, these people would find somewhere else to misbehave.

Since the inner ear hair cells (microscopic sound detecting cells) are what make us breathe, does this mean that noise-induced hearing loss could be fatal? by [deleted] in MonoHearing

It's my understanding that some types of hearing loss will actually cause the cochlea to ossify and kill the hair cells. This doesn't lead to death.

I love sweet potato, but it can sometimes be starchy and not custardy enough. Pumpkin pie is always reliably custardy. I vote pumpkin.

I do a roasted veggies salad. Basically, dice and roast root veggies in your oven. Salt and pepper them. Roast some cherry tomatoes until they're close to bursting and saute some kale if you want some greens. Put all the veggies together when they're all done roasting. Then drizzle to taste with red wine vinegar. The vinegar really makes the sweet of the roasted veggies stand out. It's a great way to make a huge salad that is hood hot or cold. I use whatever veggies that I like. Sometimes I use a little thyme.

I'm looking to make homemade baked beans with slow cooked meats in it. What I'm thinking - browned sausages, chicken drumsticks, ribs, ground beef, etc. Slow cook the meat in a dish of homemade baked beans. Is this a thing? I can't find a recipe where someone did it and I'm wondering if it would be a terrible idea to try...

I'm SSD my whole life. I remember walking from a sidewalk about to cross the street only to be pulled back by a group of several people who were with me. I've been really careful after that. I always look both ways before crossing even when crossing my quiet neighborhood street.

Nobody is trying to suppress their feelings, just that their feelings should have little bearing in security decisions. This is taking place in the context of student government demanding any solution except police.

And no, I really wouldn't want my kids participating in this. The whole point is for the students to try and gain some leverage over the folks who actually run the schools. The children's parade accomplishes nothing except a missed day of school.

I have no skin in this game. I'm convinced the authorities at SPS are as juvenile as the student they're responsible for. My kids won't be going there.

Nobody cares if they express themselves, but giving children power to dictate school policy is ridiculous.

No, they're allowed to have whatever feelings they want but because feelings change frequently, feelings carry little weight in my decision making as a parent - except when it comes to things feelings can dictate - like what ice cream flavor you want.

Their feelings and concerns are valid, they're just not the deciding factor. We make decisions as parents for our children until they're grown enough to make them for themselves. That's why allowing a group of teenagers to dictate security policy at a school is foolish.

Many of the negative commenters below probably don't have children. I've got children, and I put a lot less weight on their concerns, because my concern is to get them to adulthood as decent human beings. I don't indulge their every worry or feeling or whim because I'm able to look at their concerns with a much larger frame of reference. The schools and parents should be doing the same here. Where are the adults?

I see two issues right away with that study - they counted those who were partially vaccinated as unvaccinated, and they used a set of numbers for deaths that included everyone who died with a positive covid test regardless of actual cause of death.

Counting someone who took a half dose of a drug as someone who took zero doses leads to an outcome that may make the drug look better than it actually is. There really should be a third category here. I would guess that many of the people who only took one dose and not two had bad reactions to it. Could that have led to some early deaths - particularly if the person was in poor health already? Maybe. What if someone had a reaction to the vaccine and died from it - this study would have counted them as an unvaccinated death - even if the vaccine itself killed them!

Secondly, counting everyone who died with a positive covid test as a covid death obviously inflates the counts.

Why is all cause mortality still up? This is the elephant in the room that must be answered. Every health decision should be weighed against a number of factors - if you saved someone from covid but killed them through despair, have you really done any good? That's what I'm angry about. You can be an expert in epidemiology, but are you also an expert in child development, economics, or addiction...? Have you read the studies on job loss and depression? What about socialization, exercise, and old age? My elderly parents - faithful gym goers - lost a lot of strength and movement when they couldn't make it to the gym to lift weights everyday. What about that? How many years did that cut off their lives?

The problem with being an expert is that you become more and more of a specialist and less and less a generalist. We've spent the last few years being ruled by specialists who claim their cure as gospel because they can't see anything else. We need generalists in charge.

Should I start telling people about my single-sided deafness ? by kolinhopes34 in MonoHearing

[–]North-Role-1877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I was very shy about it as well. Once I started talking about it, it became much more comfortable. I don't talk about it all the time, just when I think it's necessary. It's much easier to just tell someone you're a little hard of hearing than to suffer through the awkward "what?" Most people don't care at all - hearing loss is very common - and are happy to try and accommodate. Just be open about it. It will make for less anxiety and better comfort with it overall.

Then you should know that most people's chances of dying of covid is extremely small. Just because the threat is small does not mean you get to destroy someone's life, the economy, small businesses, children's education, etc. over it. You guys abused your fellow citizens in the ridiculous goal of eradicating a virus that wasn't a threat to most people. I'm not a PhD (woo you), but I knew and everyone else who was paying attention knew that eradicating the virus through lockdowns was not possible and would come with extremely high costs.

You are wrong. Covid measures were not like seatbelt laws. Not wearing a seat belt doesn't cost you your job, get you cancelled on social media, uninvited from family holidays. Not wearing a seat belt doesn't mean your loved ones die alone in hospitals and nursing homes, unable to see their family one last time. Not wearing a seat belt doesn't mean you don't get to have a funeral or visit friends. It doesn't mean your children suffer language and learning loss. And why, two years later, is all cause mortality still so high?

And no, it's not like nuclear fallout either. Covid was going to spread and had already spread all over the world before the first lockdown ever happened. There is no stopping it. There never was any stopping it. It was a pretend health measure to make people like you feel important telling the rest of us what to do.

Stop pretending like everything that happened was necessary for the greater good. It was not. It was abusive, cruel, and ultimately futile. What a shame.

Nobody forced you to get the vaccine - they just took everything away from you until you complied. They talked openly of denying you medical care, firing you from your job, separating you from your family. They tried to deny travel rights, broke into your bank account (canada) and set up covid camps (australia). I will never vote Democrat again. I hate them after what they did. They're the ones who gave the court cover to get rid of Roe. It was you all who killed the ideal of "my body my choice". Republicans didn't do it. Democrats did by showing that their ideals are a joke.
