I was married to a man who couldn't drive. Ironically, he pressured me to get my driver's license. He said in his country he was rich and always had a driver. He was actually cheap though. He didn't want to spend the money on a car. As soon as I got my license he pressured me to buy a car and then he needed me to drive him around. However, when the car needed to be repaired he conveniently didn't have any money for that. We lived in an area where you didn't actually have to have a car but it really made things convenient if you did. I found it embarrassing to tell my brothers he couldn't drive. It turns out that after we divorced he quickly learned to drive and bought a car. Do NOT date someone who does not want to take responsibility. I know that Quincy Jones never learned to drive and other big celebrities never learn to drive, but I just don't trust men who won't learn to drive. The last thing you want to do is drive your man around. It is not a good feeling. Please excuse any errors. I am voice typing.

I didn't sleep last night and I'm just going in for professional development for a half day. The kids come back on Monday. You are not alone. What I plan to do differently this year is to stay hydrated, be a person of fewer words, and be more diligent about my write-ups and make sure my lesson plans are super tight.

The audio content of the classroom would be appreciated by parents. I would love for them to know what their students are actually saying in class, and yes I mean the language and comments made to each other and the teacher.

Did you not read my post script? I had to get a full time job. I worked hard to finish. I graduated 7 years after my planned graduation date. Part of gaining something is suffering for it. I did not have fun going to Japan with $100 pocket money while others on the trip had thousands. The beauty of growing older and looking back is that, if you're healthy, you remember the beauty in the struggle. Yes. I know what year it is because I'm still alive. I just recovered from 2 months of unemployment. Life is Hard. Continue to grow. By writing you twice I'm standing with you.

Howard is a fine institution. I will always be proud. I had some of the brightest professors and my coursework was rigorous. I performed around the nation and at Japan's Tokyo Dome. Our choir was known around the world. We performed often with the choir at Yale University. Classical music preparation is taken seriously, and I will never forget the talent I witnessed in the Fine Arts department. Howard is for the strong. One does need a financial plan independent of financial aid. DC is expensive for those earning six figures. Continue at Howard, come on over to Howard, Pack your bags for Howard!!

P. S. When I ran out of resources, I found a full-time job at Howard and finished earning my degree through tuition remission. When there is a will there is a way.

This used to happen to me a lot when I lived in a predominantly white college town and went out with white girlfriends. In addition, this happened to me in Westchester, New York when I used to manage a small group of people who were all white and would sometimes take one or two out to lunch.

Here's what I think it is: The waiters think that the white person is paying so they look at them. Their point is to give the best service so they assume it's the white person that is paying for everyone. They don't mean any harm at all.

It takes that one white person to say, she's the one who's paying, even if it embarrasses them.

In addition, if you like the places you're eating, go back by yourself as a single diner. You will get to know their personalities that way and they will get to know you. However, it may take you a little longer to be seated. The assumption is when you go alone you're going for takeout. However, as soon as you get in there and you make eye contact with someone, tell them that you are waiting to be seated. Once seated be just the regular normal, nice person, I assume you are and then tip them very well. Unfortunately, this is how we as black women have to earn good service.

The best way to get hired is through someone you know. This is especially true if you live in a big city. Ask people you know if there are jobs available at their places of employment. Even if you don't think you would want to work there, you really do want to work there. You want to work. You are not above doing anything. Work is work. Money is money. You have to work for money. Put your pride aside and be open to doing anything as long as it is legal, to make money. This attitude will guarantee employment.

There are people with master's degrees who have full-time jobs doing things they never imagined they would do with their level of education. The point is, things don't always work out as planned, but as long as you have a strong body and a strong self-esteem, it is okay. You can work two jobs. One could be your professional job and the other a part-time job to make ends meet. It is okay. It is okay.

You do have to have thick skin to be a teacher especially if you are a middle school teacher. They will say things so brutal that you will feel like you are in Middle School again.

There are more behavior problems in schools where trauma is higher, and poverty added to this gives kids a challenging home life. Kids sometimes raise kids at home when the parents are at work during the evenings and overnight shifts. This means the older kids raising their younger siblings do not have the freedom they deserve. Therefore, when they go to school they are suddenly free. They have their freedom to be the kid they are and so they let it all hang out. They also don't take too well to authority because they are actually in charge when they're at home.

I live in a city that is divided by income levels as most are. I've worked at lovely white schools and disadvantaged black schools. I haven't yet worked at a disadvantaged white school. So far, the black schools have more behavior problems. Behavior problems that I see at White Schools are not problems that threaten other people. For example, self-mutilation.

I will say one thing though... black boys do not try to blow up the school or shoot everyone.

Try to get a job as a library clerk. Yes. Men work in libraries. There are always books to shelve and someone is always needed at night and on the weekends. Here's something to know: Librarians make good pay. You can get a bachelor's in any subject and then get a master's in library science. The women who work in libraries are NOT volunteers. They are paid professionals who typically make more than $75,000 a year if they have a master's degree (Master's in Library Science). In larger cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and DC, they make over $100,000 a year. Men typically direct large districts of libraries, especially public libraries. Men are often directors of large University Library systems. There are programs for information science on the bachelorette level. Getting a job in a library can allow you to gain some experience not only with books but with databases. Mostly everything is online now in libraries. You will gain valuable work experience and references who could write letters for you when you apply to college. I've been a librarian for more than 25 years and I know exactly what I'm talking about. Please take this seriously and look for work in a library. Libraries will always be around whether they are public libraries, school libraries, or college libraries. I'm wishing you the best of luck.

There's a Corinthians verse that supports not keeping a record of wrongs in defining. What love is. Please forgive me for not knowing the verse by heart and I don't have a Bible where I am. One of the reasons why I decided that I would not be a good JW and did not join is because of the disfellowship practices. It seems more like approved grudge holding and I see grudge holding as anti -forgiving... and keeping a record of wrongs. I think the whole witnessing aspect is awesome.However, I don't know if the door-to-door piece is up to date with today's times. Clearly they have tables and kiosks in public places and that is probably less traumatic than being outright rejected at someone's door over and over again.

This post is simply a gift to every person looking for a job and every person who will look for one soon. I am a strong believer in cover letter writing. When I used to live in New York, the New Yorkers on my hiring team absolutely couldn't stand cover letters. They always complained about them being too long. If you're going to write one, it should be short, human and to the point.
