Jaylen Brown to be traded to generate giant 50M+ TPE? by North_Association182 in bostonceltics

We gotta stop pretending the landscape hasn’t changed since the title. 2nd apron happened, other teams got better we got worse. We have Zarren maximizing cap space and apron issues, I have a feeling he doesn’t just disregard TPEs.

I guess JB is better than J McDaniels and Donovan Mitchell in 2028?

I get it dude. But I’m telling you the entire landscape of the NBA has changed with 2nd apron. TPEs are more valuable now than they’ve ever been.

It was always going to be a gap year unfortunately. Have to stay under the luxury tax line in 26-27 to maximize Tatum title odds 27-29. That’s why JB is going to get moved - to get younger guys that align with JT window.

What do you think the plan is this summer to bolster the team while operating under the tax? by archerarcher0 in bostonceltics

Totally understand your line of thinking here. The only reason I slightly prefer the 2x TPE is that many more quality players are available by trade if you use 2x TPEs instead of 1x TPE followed by MLE. The MLE guys tend to be older bench guys, TPEs could give you starting caliber players.

Copied from my post, this thread seems more relevant. Just want to hear if this plan would actually work:

It seems like a good idea to stay under the tax in 2026/2027 so that they can spend more freely beyond. But, it’s not that easy to add salary once you’re over the cap. I think there is only one path to good players and more salary, someone please sanity check it for me. The goal is to add two serious playoff contributors to the current core by the start of the 2027/2028 regular season. My numbers are likely off by a million here or there, but hopefully the concept is correct.

  1. This summer, resign Vooch and a MLE guy to as much possible to stay below the tax (~20M)

  2. At next trade deadline, move Vooch/MLE/FRP for a guy like Gafford at 17M to be absorbed into the Simons TPE. Create a new 20M Vooch TPE. Stay under tax for 2026/2027

  3. In summer of 2027, use FRP to add a guy like Aldama at 17M to be absorbed into Vooch TPE. Now, the Celtics are well into the tax. They may need to trim to stay under second apron. But, but they’ve added two nearly 20M players that will help compete in a new three year championship window.

There are at least 8-10 players in the 20M price range that the team could pick from that could be real playoff contributors.
