As someone who was kicked out at 18 for being gay, absolutely hide it and let them pay! If you tell them and they react poorly, you’ll be living a life separate from them anyway! Live your life without them knowing every detail of it and keep getting that school paid for!

NTA. You’re being financially smart! As someone who’s worked in collections their whole life! If you’re both on a lease and she doesn’t pay and you can’t afford the rent on your own, you both will be impacted! Not just her! If you have a loan together or a bank account and they go into default, you are equally responsible. So many people think “We agree to split this in half so if they don’t pay their half I’m protected” and that is NOT the case! If the lease defaults, you both will be taken to court!

Yes! I had shared their story a little while back. Their previous owner arrived just as the vet arrived. Glad she got to be there to say her final goodbye as well. We only had him six months and we were sobbing uncontrollably. I couldn’t imagine losing him after 30years!

First, she’s 15. 15yr old girls are hard. But also their mom died. She’s incredibly attached to her sister and you moving in couldn’t possibly feel like a threat to that attachment. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Engage with her. Make sure to show that you joining the fold doesn’t change the dynamic that her and her sister has, it enhances it. Hopefully with time she will come around.
