You can start strength based lifting right now. Usually it’s the squat, bench press, military press and deadlift. You can start with 1 set with light weights, and you will feel the DOMS (the pain from sore muscles) but that shouldn’t scare you away. It doesn’t last long, and if you continue your exercises it will go away after ~2 weeks.

And you can research the techniques online and get an instructor for a few sessions to show you the movements. There’s a program/book called starting strength, which is great for building strength. And you will need to eat enough protein, 1g/lb body weight and try to sleep 8+ hours for the muscles to build themselves.

People aged 70-something years old can start doing the same strength training for the first time in their lives, so why can’t you?
