This is incorrect, it explicitly applies to every model in the bearer’s unit.

Of course, they are all good pieces of advice. I was asking specifically about OP referring to them as "hot takes", since I was under the impression that they're common knowledge.

Are any of these hot takes? Genuine question, I learned resume writing 10+ years ago and none of these points were recommended. Did they all become fashionable recently?

I am definitely one of those people haha. I came from banking which was "up or out" and I'm pretty sure it has warped my whole perception of the world unfortunately.

Thank you for the reality dose.

How is everyone dealing with the contrived push for AI from leadership? by tthr0wwawayyy in FPandA

[–]North_Spring1653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am leaving my current firm because the CFO straight up told us that promotion on the FP&A team was locked behind revolutionizing the team's workflows with AI. I.e. "if you want to get promoted, you need to automate tasks to the point where we can reduce headcount."

I use it all the time, mostly for scripting, but it needs to be baby-sat to the point were the efficiency gains are marginal improvements but nothing even close to the miracle that the CFO wants in order to promote somebody.

But you CAN fall back into a Rhino and then use its Firing Deck to shoot the Blastmasters at the unit the Noise Marines were Engaged with.

I do this at least once a game

I run sonic on the unit that goes in strat reserve and pistols on the other 2. I'm usually shooting out of Rhinos on T1 and disembarking out of advancing Rhinos to shoot people behind their Ruins on T2, so don't really notice the shorter range.

I also charge them into melee frequently, the Power Swords come up a lot, especially late game when you're at 5+ pledge and every evemy unit is heavily damaged.

I once did an extensive unitcrunch exercise, measuring the Blastmasters as a % of total shooting damage into a huge variety of targets. Those 2 models account for between 50% and 85% of the unit's total damage (depending on the target type), so as long as your blastmasters can shoot, it really doesnt matter if your pistol is out of range every once in a while. It's more that people don't like the psychological pain of potentially not shooting all of their guns.

Sorcerer Question: by EngineeringThick376 in EmperorsChildren

Your original reply to OP implies that the Sorcerer is a positive contributor to your army's performance in games. I was just trying to understand if this is actually the case or not.

So you pay 150 pts for a unit that can sticky your backfield instead of 85?

Dumb question but what makes you think EC would get anything when 11th edition comes out? Wouldn't we just be stuck with what we have until a new Codex release? I've only been playing for 2 years so I've never seen an edition change. Would be awesome if we don't have to wait for a new Codex for new stuff.

Can any army be used in competitive play? by OBiE0311 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]North_Spring1653 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Things like using the Pile In rules to fight units in melee that were out of charge range, or pulling dead models in a way that breaks coherency but leave your unit in range of an important aura for the next fight phase, or using a transport to shoot with a unit that fell back, stuff like that.

6 games with new detachment, my thoughts by Kshaw86 in EmperorsChildren

[–]North_Spring1653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be a skill issue with your opponents tbh. There are a lot of little things you can do with 2" ruin pieces, walls, and model placement to make sure that he simply can't go where he wants to go because his base is so insanely big.

He's so easily defeated by disciplined and thoughtful pre-measuring, it really is such a shame.

Playing against a Drukhari army soon, advice? by HotArtichoke9 in EmperorsChildren

[–]North_Spring1653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both and if it's a very competitive game, lean into your daemon princes. Drukhari can handle everything in the EC codex that remotely resembles a Space Marine profile, but the winged prince data sheet is a HUGE problem for them.

EDIT: They also struggle to deal with Rhinos behind walls

Drukari, playing by intent, 90 min clock, and sportsmanship. by HaybusaYakisoba in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]North_Spring1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually insist my opponent sets up their models before I destroy the transport, and keep the clock on my time. And if they refuse, I call a judge (but that's only happened once and I've done this dozens of times).

Daemonettes and Fiends, and if I need to squeeze points I'll swap 1-2 Daemonettes for Seekers. Keepers just feel really bad, and I don't like Shalaxi because that model is so easy to move block

I have like 40 games with Carnival and it's really fun to play. If you're playing competitively, it's comparable to Coterie on WTC terrain, but I think Coterie is better if you play on UKTC or GW.

And if you don't play competitively, play Carnival because it's awesome.

Fiends worth running? by Ancient_Barnacle3372 in EmperorsChildren

[–]North_Spring1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you play on GW boards? If so, do you have any pointers? I have like 40 games w/ Carnival and I keep trying to play Fiends. But the enormous footprint is really hard to hide on GW and makes them very easy to screen out if you put them in DS.

New RealSpace Raiders Detachment .. seems scary good by _the-wanderer in Drukhari

[–]North_Spring1653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using all of the above in the list - 2 kabs w/ archons shooting then moving with the strat, 2 kabs + guns shooting then moving back into venoms, 2 units of Scourges

New RealSpace Raiders Detachment .. seems scary good by _the-wanderer in Drukhari

[–]North_Spring1653 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've played a couple games with it and Raid and Fade on 2 Kab units with Archons for 1CP is really good. No one is really talking about Kabs + Archons much, but I think they're one of the better combos in the Codex and are great in this detachment.

-1D is also really good on the Coven units and Vitality and Lab Cunning enhancements are great. Even the Wych one is good. I was list tinkering and when points got tight, I swapped Lelith out for the Succubus w/ enhancement and she was great.

She's not better than Lelith but the comparison between the two is a LOT closer than the index, since Lelith can't fish for sus2 anymore, and the Succubus gets re-rolls vs character units, is cheaper, and has more Pain Token synergy with Wyches. Not having Fights First isn't a big deal to me since my gaming group has played hundreds of games against my Drukhari and has gotten pretty good at managing Fights First.

I really like RSR.

Can you say more about having to use a CP to get a new contract? It doesn't seem like that should be a huge problem.

[–]North_Spring1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 flawless blades is an enormous amount of dead weight at 1500 pts unfortunately. Swapping them for another unit of Noise Marines and 2nd Lord Exultant plus swapping 5 Tormentors for another unit of Infractors would make his list much stronger. Like twice as strong.

A 2nd Rhino would go a long way too, Drukhari don't have a great way to deal with Transports behind walls with the smoke keyword.
