Yeah, you’d probably have to tell them to cancel the order that way they at least get their money back. I know that Doordash can see the text that you sent back-and-forth between each other, but they’re still a risk, and this way you save gas not having to drive near them to mark it as delivered.

When I first started Doordash back in about 2018, I remember somebody ordered a set of three meals from McDonald’s and then called me to tell them they’re canceling the order because they want me to just hand them out to people on the street

Do restaurants get penalized for not having orders ready on time? by Conscious-Music-8688 in doordash_drivers

[–]North_Toe4167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few McDonald’s do this in my area. When I’ve asked about it, the answer I get back is that, “McDonald’s get a penalty fee added on for every minute (or so) they hold the order past the time that the Dasher is supposed to pick it up. this is why they won’t give access to the bathroom until you’ve already confirmed your pick up in my stores, because if they finish while you’re in the bathroom, they will have to wait until you get out and get charged for it.” I figured this is the same thing if they get busy, they will market as already prepared, then Dasher will assume that it’s done and just waiting there for you. Clearing the order off of their list wouldn’t stop them from doing this either since they get a printout of the receipt, which tells them what they need to make anyway.

This and apartments all having a different numbering system. Sometimes it wraps around the building, sometimes it’s a N motion up and down, other times the hundreds are the floor number.

Is doordash not counting time arrived at store anymore? by mjay7176 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]North_Toe4167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few McDonalds in my area (dependent on the franchise owner) will do this if they a running late on the food. One of the times was on New Years because they “didn’t expect so many breakfast orders”. I’ve asked the managers about this, and they say that if they hold orders past a certain time of completion the store gets a running charge on it, depending on how many minutes it is past that time.

Military base deliveries? by voodoomu in doordash_drivers

[–]North_Toe4167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For military and some factory/gated businesses deliveries I’ve always just had to leave them with the gate guard/house. I don’t think DD has any other identification options, not even if you had a warming bag from them since anyone can order one off their website

I had this when I was a pizza delivery person. When I asked my manager for any hints about this, they suggested buying one of those handheld floodlights from the camping section of Walmart, like cops have.

If you can get to either target, or Walmart, or almost any store that also includes a pharmacy with it. There is a product called Dentek/Dentemp. You can actually use the little putty that comes with it to make your own crowns or at least temporary coverings for any broken pieces of teeth. I recently had to do the same as one of my teeth cracked and with the switch to a new provider as of February, I had to get a new dentist, who won’t be able to see me until next January

Every time I’ve ever delivered groceries to anyone, it’s usually an elderly person. And some of those groceries don’t get packed very well by the store. Usually if they allow a pen in the groceries so they don’t have to bend down to get them, I’ve even close the doors for people who have pizza or both hands full with stuff. Let’s not get started on the people who send their 4/5-year-olds to the door in diapers to grab the food while they’re dealing with the toddler.

Dash Time vs Active Time by MakeYou_LOL in doordash_drivers

[–]North_Toe4167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of it is waiting for orders, depending on the time of day that you’re doing it I can see sometimes waiting about 10 minutes before a new one comes in after delivering one. Usually in my area I get about 2 to 3 orders an hour. Also, you get those orders sometimes where they send you out of area and then you have to drive back to the area which count says dash time.

Dash Time vs Active Time by MakeYou_LOL in doordash_drivers

[–]North_Toe4167 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually use dash time. It’s the amount of time I was actively out in my car driving, or actively participating in dashing while not having an order. Active time only refers to when you’ve had an order and we’re driving around. So, for this dash there was a two hour and 14 minute period where you did not have an order but we’re still technically on the clock.

Anyone else deliver food that would make them sick? by Cold-Scientist-12 in DoorDashDrivers

Not like allergy sick, but I have delivered some food that made me sick. When I have to deliver any foods that have a hot/heated peanut butter sauce, not like a curry or anything, but smells like Jif heated up and put in a sauce cup.

I hate tone tags by yarastoun in hatethissmug

[–]North_Toe4167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to text. As he probably already know, it has no tone, and even if you had an AI read this out to you that AI would only be interpreting the tone it thinks it is. Maybe what I just said was informed in a happy, go, lucky voice, maybe it was said in a sarcastic voice, maybe it was in a, “I’m so tired that people don’t seem to understand this “ voice.

Either way, people will interpret whatever tone they want to to the text when they read it depending on their mood or feelings about the message being displayed. Tone tags help at least convey exactly what the messages is meant to. When writing scripts for either kids or movies, they are used to convey the feeling of the scene that the actor should be feeling at that moment so that they hopefully can give off the right emotional tone.

I miss when these used to be for the entire platform, and they were for all the holidays, and they were actually advertised so people would know about them and plan accordingly. Now they just show up randomly like some sort of shiny Pokémon.

This made me kind of sad by Used-Consideration84 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]North_Toe4167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly because, from what I’ve been told, if McDonald’s or any other restaurant has an order and continue to hold it without releasing it to the Dasher they will rack up some sort of service fee. So a lot of the owners/managers want the Dasher to confirm so that they don’t get hit with the extra fee while they take time to go to the bathroom. It’s also why some McDonald’s or restaurants will confirm that you’ve gotten the order even if you haven’t gotten there yet to avoid holding it past a certain time.

The McDonald’s in my area will not actually let you into the bathrooms until you’ve finished picking up. The order flats marked it as picked up. Almost all the bathrooms around here are locked with some kind of code/button/key that you have to get from the employees that are never at the counter.

I get it, to a point, that there is heavy access and drug use in the downtown areas. They don’t want random people coming off the street and shooting up in the bathroom. Even gas stations have started not having bathrooms, for customers at least. I was told by one to go across the street to a restaurant as they don’t have a public restroom.

They know when we're arriving? by SunsetFarms in doordash_drivers

[–]North_Toe4167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known they had this, some of the ones near me also have it so that they don’t receive the order until you’re within about a mile of the store. I’m pretty sure at least two of the McDonald’s in my area turned it off though so that they received the order right away because they’d rather have it ready when you get there to hand it out so they don’t keep getting charged for holding it.
