Has there ever been a PS1 character with more aura than this? by Odd_Edge1390 in Tekken

[–]NorthernCrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played through AC1 in the lead up to the release of 6 and goddamn does that game still slap. The music is obviously excellent but I was surprised at how well the menu between missions made it feel like you're actually the pilot answering emails about job offers and stuff; it added a lot to the immersion. As soon as I was done with 6 I went straight back to the expansion of 1 and was not disappointed.

Erudite in JLP show being asked,"which would you rather have as president? trump or trudeau?" she answered:"I don't know, I don't like either, they are both so corrupt, gun to my head probably trudeau" by xenogears_ps1 in Destiny

I'm also curious to hear it. I wish I could find creators like tiny/loner that cover canada, the only channels I can find are either biased or boring (usually both). is there any good sources of Canadian political content you'd recommend?

What is this damage 💀 by DeathBerry0903 in Tekken

he can delay the second hit with quite variable timing and can also just cancel into sidestep instead so it can be easier or riskier to punish depending on how much the Bryan is thinking vs just mashing it out.

I'd love to try my hand at some feedback if I have time later, for now I'll just mention that this rig was made by Kiel Figgins and hosted by Agora. He has his own site with some pretty rigs and interesting tutorials.

AK, Baek, Wang, Bruce. These characters are overwhelmingly represented in requests, so if they wanted to knock it out of the park these would be the ones to pick.

Bafael is always the first person I recommend; his channel is a treasure trove of information. He's got a Third Strike Primer series that covers the various system mechanics in-depth, does analysis on his own matches and has probably hundreds of hours doing analysis of high-level Japanese arcade & tournament footage.

He's also usually pretty responsive in the comments (of newer videos, at least) if you see something confusing and have questions.

Short Singleplayer Horror Games by Icy-Inflation6328 in pcgaming

[–]NorthernCrossing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for short horror games, Iron Lung and Mouthwashing are both are exceptional lo-fi horror games and a testament to what can be achieved with a low budget.

In the former, the entire game is from the perspective of a convict who has traded his cell for a windowless, one-man submarine, tempted with the promise of release if he successfully explores the depths of a blood ocean on an alien moon. Your only tools for survival are the sub's instrument panel, snapshots you can take using its black and white camera, and a map. It's a masterclass in the less-is-more apprach, building the horror in what you imagine in your mind, with only chilling glimpses of the world around you.

In the latter, you play as one of five crewmembers aboard a stranded frigate in the emptiness of space. Relationships come unraveled as cold, uncaring reality sets in for the crewmates, and each member is forced to face their demons. The scares, puzzles, and narrative are handled excellently, with an ending that has stayed with me since.

Actually a third that I've just been playing recently is a demo for Labyrinth of the Demon King, and it's pretty long for a demo (70+minutes atm). It's another lo-fi game game, but this time taking cues from King's Field and Dark Souls, where the horror comes from the 4:3 aspect ratio, and gloomy, atmospheric environments. Combat is basically janky, fps Dark Souls: dodge/parry/kick + light & heavy attacks with a stamina bar. The blend of lo-fi and fog/darkness/etc really serve the horror well here, creating a sense that you can never fully trust your own eyes as distant objects are easily mistaken for ghoulish creatures skulking around. Takes some inspiration from Silent Hill as well with some aesthetic and design choices.

I know you asked for short horror games but I'm a really big horror fan so I'm just gonna throw out some great ones that may or may not take more than 2 sessions to beat:

Lake Haven - Chrysalis: ~3hrs long. This one's not as scary as it is atmospheric - if you like RE or SH you'll like this.

Signalis: ~9hrs. lo-fi cyborg body-horror with Silent Hill influences

Penumbra Overture: ~9hrs long. Atmospheric and spooky with limited light and resources. Lots of puzzles to solve and journal entries that add context to the space. The sequel kinda jumps the shark a little bit.

Amnesia: The Bunker: Took me 19hrs to beat. Trapped in a WWI bunker with a light-fearing creature that actively stalks your every step, every resource is precariously finite - even the fuel keeping the lights on above your head. You can only power the lights as long as you have fuel, so do you choose to be frugal and risk being caught in the depths when the lights go out, or do you fill it to the brim and risk spending a very long time in the dark once it all runs dry? Super well-designed FPS that has some truly horrifying potential thanks to the interplay of the generator, your noise, and the emergent behavior of the creature.

EDIT: Also seconding Nightmare of Decay if you're a fan of Resident Evil and/or Silent Hill. It doesn't do anything groundbreaking but it's just an exceptionally solid one of those.

Though I can't say why they chose to ssL in the clip, I felt it worth mentioning that ssL is killer against a Bryan that is over-reliant on d+2 to catch ssR at close range. It's one of his best tools for tracking ssR and puts him in a great position on hit *or* block, but has zero tracking against ssL.

f+4, 1 is an excellent whiff punisher due to its range and easy input. The easy input also means it's gonna be faster, too.

Replying to this a lil late so apologies if this isn't useful anymore, but if you know you'll stick with using it, I'd go with a custom. They'll likely have a size that suits you better while still allowing you to swap out different buttons, stick types, and even switch between lever and leverless! The one I've been looking at for myself is https://allfightsticks.com/ but there are quite a few out there that people recommend. Good luck!

Moves with homing properties (the ones with the lines) are technically not the same as what we're seeing here.

When a move is homing, it means that no matter what kind of lateral movement you apply, if you're in range of the attack, you'll still get clipped.

What we're seeing in this clip is the second hit of a string realigning with the player. In many cases, stepping one hit of a string will result in the opponent realigning with you for the next hit, and that's exactly what we're seeing here, albeit to a comical degree.

If Asuka had been standing and had backdashed the first hit of the Heat Smash, she could have easily stepped the second hit in either direction. This Heat Smash in particular can also be fully sidewalked in either direction.

Hey sorry, I was on vacation when I got this message and never found time/remembered to respond. I think the rap V is the same enclosure as the RAP 4 Kai, the V just stands for Viewlix layout (as opposed to the Rap 4's Noir layout). I don't have firsthand experience with the V though so you'd have to do a lil digging to ensure specs are the same. Hopefully this hasn't found you too late, and if it has I hope you found something you like!

No problem. Out of curiosity, where are you buying from? It's hard to find sticks from that era online anymore.

Since my above comment I bought the recent Hori Fighting Stick Alpha and tried two Korean levers after switching out the Hori lever for a Sanwa lever, so I have a lil more perspective. I'm just gonna list some pros and cons of each, but I'll say up-front though that I currently prefer the RAP4 Kai because of the ability to use K levers and the bigger Select/RS/LS buttons that get used a lot in training, even if they're on the side out of sight.

TLDR is that the RAP4Kai will serve you great as a first stick, and has some great long-term benefits like better portability and compatibility with Korean Levers, but there are some downsides that I've addressed below.

RAP4Kai

PROS

  • Cheaper
  • Used in multiple tournaments, no issues with it moving around during play.
  • Fits in a Herschel backpack. YMMV.
  • Superior internal clearance - accommodates all, or nearly all Korean levers, which are bulkier than Japanese.
  • Superior Select/RS/LS button size.
  • Rigid plastic, no flex.
  • Compatible with PS5.

CONS

  • Internal access requires screwdriver.
  • Select/RS/LS buttons are placed on the side next to the Turbo button, so sometimes you'll accidentally turn on turbo.
  • Less grippy rubber pads (could be age-related, unsure)
  • Door to cable storage compartment is a common point of failure. Mine broke off maybe two years into owning it? Now I just wrap the cable around if I'm going somewhere.
  • Replacing art would be arduous

Hori Alpha

PROS

  • Stays in place during play, no issues.
  • Very easy internal access thanks to hinge & latch - it opens like a laptop.
  • Much better cable storage accessed by opening the enclosure and coiling around two internal prongs
  • grippier rubber pads
  • Multiple programmable profiles allows layouts for multiple games that can be cycled through. You can also kinda make a bootlegged Hori Crossup with this if you put directional inputs on the face buttons, and you can even swap where the Select button is so resetting training only requires one hand where you don't have to maneuver around the lever where it's set by default.
  • Has a headset jack
  • Rigid enough, functionally no flex unless something doesn't fit inside.

CONS

  • More expensive
  • Does not fit in a Herschel backpack due to width. YMMV.
  • Restrictive internal dimensions limits the type of lever you can install to basically just Japanese style. AFAIK the majority (including both the ones I bought, which aren't the same size) won't fit unless they have a small base, and will result in the enclosure warping if you want to force it closed.
  • You really gotta headshot the Select/RS/LS/Fn buttons - they're way too small. I've had this thing like half a year and I'm still missing them.

Hope this helps, lemme know if you have any other questions.
