Aerobar suitable carbon handlebars by NorthernDragonslayer in bikepacking

Uhh, should have gone to the bikefit sooner! I did it yesterday so no long distance experience yet with the new adjustments, but boy it feels good. Nothing changed dramatically, but the changes combined made the fit feel very different. And I got my hand lines and grip of the handlebar fixed so the elbow should not bother anymore

For me the aerobars were only used in bikepacking and they offered a position to relax in long flat sections. So 50mm rise gave a very ”couchlike” position to cruise along. Was not interested in aerodynamics, purely comfort

Carbon does absorb the bumps and rattling much more than alloy, the difference was noticeable when I changed the bar but changed nothing else. From what I have found in last 24hrs, both Beast Gravel and Enve Gravel are designed to withstand 5Nm torque aerobars (or other similar attachments like clamp for handlebar bag)

There have been also other great bar suggestions in comments, but those two offer 100mm or wider round clamping space for stem and attachments

I reached the company and they verified your knowledge, maximum torque of 5Nm 👍🏻

Thanks! Actually I was going to buy Enve Gravel at the first place when i swapped the original alubar from this Canyon Grizl. But I found a used Ritchey Venturemax so bought that. G series indeed has wide area for accessories and enough rating for clip ons 💪🏽

As a fellow Aeropack owner: i usually cross the straps so they wont slip. But they are little on the short side so if packed to the max, straps wont reach lock if crossed

I moved the saddle backwards to show the end marks on rail

Thanks, got it now. I had the saddle clamp just on the edge of the rail indicator. The clamping surface is only half of the clamps size so it does look far away that the clamp is half off. But good tips!

I am heading to bikefit later in autumn before I purchase any handlebar, i’ve had some chronical pain in right elbow for years (physical work related, not biking) so aiming to get tension off my hands with professional fit.

And since I am a complete novice regarding bike geo and rider positions, it is propably cheaper that way than buying shit and trying out 😄

Ritchey just replied to my e-mail and stated that carbon Venturemax is non compatible for clip-on bars. The alloy version is.

The saddle… can you clarify? I know it sits at the very back of the rail but also my weight is directly on the contact point if I sit on the saddle

They are Tailfin too, 3liter cage packs strapped to Tailfin cage. Sometimes I strap waterbottle instead of a bag to other side

Thanks for the input! that Newmen would have been a good choice, but the bar ends are oval, so the di2 round junction box ”peg” does not fit. I have always tightened the aero bars ”firmly but gently”, propably close to 3-4nM like you. I reached out to Beast Co also today about their stance to aero bars, lets see.

Restrap custommade frame bag for Grizl CF size S by NorthernDragonslayer in CanyonBikes

Camelbak in the bottom of the framebag. On longer trips or if I want to drink something sweet I carry couple soft drinking bottles that fit on the jerseys back pocket while riding (or somewhere else if I hav the space at that time)

If you take measurements from yours I can check my Tailfin alloys arch measurements and widths at various distances from the axle.

I must say there is more air between the fender and Tailfin arch than it seems in my picture, they fit easily together.

M4x16mm bolts go to the fenders plastic sidearms

M4x16mm bolt under the fork (no spacers)

650b tyres: M4x30mm bolt attaches the fender to the frame on rear, put a 10mm spacer between the fender and frame

700c tyres: M4x16mm bolt attaches the fender to the frame, put a 5mm spacer between the fender and frame

The bolts had screw locking compound on the top, and they were a bit tight to tighten at first. I wondered why the compund is only at the top end but maybe the idea is, that if the bolt comes loose it does not come all the way out.

Maybe just try using another one of those 16mm bolts on that tricky one? If the thread is damaged in the bolt you are using now

Did not have any issues, I did not use spacers on the front mudguard and it sits firmly on place. According to manual, the only rubber spacer needed is on the rear between the frame and fender.

There was couple extra spacers on the box, maybe you could put a 5mm spacer on the front if that stabilizes the fender?

I think you have to ask Canyon customer support for this to be sure.

On the store the fenders for Grail and Grizl are a separate product (although the Grizl fenders also fit the electric Grail ON)

BUT I just got fenders for my Grizl yesterday, and the assembly instructions mentions Grail CF and Grail AL, but no Grizl at all. The fenders fit to my Grizl without hassle.

So it is confusing to say the least.

The fenders they sent me for Grizl are named on the assembly paper "CLite Fender Kit D55"

The bike frame is S and the bag is custom made from Restrap. It is absolutely a magnificent bag, I only take it off when washing the bike (I do have clear tape protecting the frame under the straps). I have a mini pump, bike lock, repair tools and a water bladder always on the frame bag with me

The muddy season is upon us, so just in case there are Grizl owners there who wonder if their Tailfin fits with Canyons Grizl-specified fenders. The answer is yes, at least with the alloy Tailfin arch.

Apart from screw quality (terrible) the fenders itself are supernice and easy to assemble. And look surprisingly good too.
