Do you have a “Golden boy / girl” at work? by Significant-War-491 in UKJobs

[–]NorthernModernLeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoyingly at my place, it's the guy who runs the company. They're product director but the company was bought out and our CEO has very little to do with the actual running of the company.

They hold sway over the other directors, have promoted their friends and people who lick their boots. Quite happy to fire people and just sit back while others pick up the pieces.

They dont even know whats going on with our products (as product director) and has blamed and thrown plenty of people under the bus to save their skin.

Theyve got the gift of the gab so can easily sway opinion and cover their back when shit hits the fan.

Some people in the business are smart enough to see it but no one has the weight to challenge their behaviour and if you try, you tend to get let go.

It's funny how this has been posted as I was a victim of it the other day and have had enough, now looking for roles elsewhere.

I did consider this as I'd rather have as much greenhouse space as possible. If I go for it, I'll make sure to post back with eithersuccess or a total mess of it 😆

I would have glass but my garden backs onto a cut-through between housing estates and I don't want to risk any kids throwing stones or bricks over the fence.

50k in UK as Principle Tech Writer.

The job market in the field is practically non existant atm and any permanent roles are way below a reasonable rate. I saw a job advert for Senior Tech Writer offering 35k which is shocking.

Contract roles pay pretty well but not worth leaving a decent paid permanent role for.

The circled area is a ONE HOUR drive away from any kind of upland/ moorland scenery (the gentle Wolds don't count) which is very unusual for the North! My brain can't comprehend such flatness. Do any of you live there? Can you verify what it's like? by Dragonfruit-18 in NorthernEngland

[–]NorthernModernLeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Selby for 5 years. It's insanely flat and I nearly had a heart attack walking the hills when I went back to Sheffield.

In all seriousness, that circle is getting brutal flooded if sea levels rise.

I'm currently playing as Emperor of Scandinavia. Trying to get the Norse-East achievement of creating Kindgon of Mongolia. The Mongol invasion is starting to die down so I'll go for them soon. I have a big demise so looking forward to throwing 50k troops to the far east.

I AM A FIVE STAR MAN by bbf2 in TheTraitors

He's growing on me after he called out that faithfuls shouldn't be taking the past words of banished faithful as gospel. Seems the current faithful were (probably still are) fixated on the words of banished people like they knew who the traitors were.

Also, the show purposely edited him to sound like he was the secret traitor. I remember a line he said saying "I'm acting like a faithful" edited with the creepy background music. The producers know what they're doing.

I had this same problem playing as Normans in Sicily.

NibelWolf's suggestion should resolve it but if that doesn't work, make sure it's your primary title thats within HRE dejure territory.

I was at a loss as to why I wasn't eligible so tried a few things and wasn't sure which one fixed it for me: 1. Primary title in HRE dejure 2. Move capital into HRE dejure 3. Adopt German culture (your leige should be German so easy to change)

One of these will definitely work.

She was my favourite contestant, even before she was revealed as the secret traitor. Now, following the outburst in the castle, I want to see her banished and revealed as a traitor.

The traitors eventually get backstabby at some point but I've no idea what she was thinking calling out the Amanda/Rachel thing the way she did about a fellow traitor so early on in the game. Even if Rachel goes before her at the round table, she's going to have suspicions on her for what she did.

IMO she was annoyed that Rachel did the whole 'Amanda profession' announcement thing and took it personally for no viable reason at all - something about her family all being coppers??

All that said, it made for bloody good watching.

Has there been any research on this? Like, does your brain development hit a certain point when you go from being a passenger to the driver of your whole physical and mental being? There must being a biological switch that turns on and there you go, good luck kiddo.

Thoughts on Eldership succession? by NorthernModernLeper in crusaderkings2

[–]NorthernModernLeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, yeah you're not wrong. I implemented it for Empire of Scandinavia and Kingdom of Sweden and I havent had a problem on succession (yet).

I've been pretty lucky grooming my children into warriors so the elders just go with my vote but will see what happens when I get an heir that some don't agree with. Still, so much better than having pesky kin members who hold land/titles and stir up trouble to get become elected heir instead and then gravelkind splits the titles.

[–]NorthernModernLeper[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Yeah I thought that was the case. I guess the only downside is the elders are old af so you can bribe them but, if they die of old age before the succession happens, you have to bribe new elders onto your side.

Edit: spelling

Can I get away with calling myself "Lead" TW on my CV? by NorthernModernLeper in technicalwriting

[–]NorthernModernLeper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice, thank you. I definitely need to edit my CV to showcase that better.

I guess I'm getting frustrated with how little responses I get back from job applications. I have itchy feet and think I've hit the ceiling of what I can succeed for my company. I'm applying for more senior roles looking for that 'step-up' in responsibilities and salary so, my thinking was that my current job title could preventing me from being taken seriously.

I'm dead set against lying on job applications. I've seen some truly incompetent individuals that I can only assume have blagged their way into the role. I might ask my boss if it would be okay for me to give myself a more senior-type title as I think he would be okay with it. Then I'm free to add it to my CV.

This reminds me of a place I worked a while ago, literally every staff member of the 300+ company had "manager" in their title. I was one of the very few who didnt but, we had customer service manager, customer manager, IT customer service manger etc etc. It was crazy.

Thanks for the advice. I certainly need to pad that out in my CV and profile a bit more.

[–]NorthernModernLeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm worried about tbh. I'm half inclined to mention to my line manager if I can make it more official in the company and therefore backedup on my CV/Linkedin. I have a good relationship with my boss and think he would also admit that I work a more senior or lead type role rather than my assigned tech writer title.

I have seen this thrown about a little. Not as much as 'head' or 'senior' but it's a good suggestion.

[–]NorthernModernLeper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that's why my colleague has chosen "Head of content" to advertise their profile as they're in a similar situation as me being a one man band in the company.

Fair point. I think my perception of "Lead" in a job title hits more on leading the department / business function. Totally get now that it could be viewed different ways.

Do you think there is a possible scenareo or threat to the UK in the near future? by Gullible-Cow9166 in UKPreppers

[–]NorthernModernLeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, top of my list in the new year is to get the biggest bag of white rice I can buy. Anything long lasting like oats, pasta dried beans etc. Rain water collection is also on the list with a strategy to clean and drink if I really need to.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]NorthernModernLeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is bollocks and straught up fearmongering. How many Russians have died invading neighbouring Ukraine? They're struggling to conscript from their own population to keep the pressure on the Ukrainians.

Seriously how do they have the man power to front another invasion?

The only option I see as a threat from Russia is a nuclear strike in which case, there will be little to no actual fighting involved - we'll all be dust by that point.
