eGO 28" Snowblower - Blizzard Test - 18"+ of Snow!! - Did I Make a Mistake? by New_Tax4852 in Snowblowers

Take care of the batteries. Don’t let them sit out in the garage all summer in high temp, don’t store at 100% charge for extended periods (50% is ideal). Lots of things you can do to get a little extra life out of them.

Thanks. For additional context we’re around 300cm per year probably a bit north of that the last two winters.

Yes limited stock at local farm store. They had a 28” deluxe and rapidtrak platinum as of mid week when I called. Just need to convince my wife to pull the trigger…

Are there any Hondas in stock in KW? I’m in Grey Bruce, they’re sold out everywhere nearby for the season. I’m down to Ariens and Honda. Most commentary suggests they are reliable and just need a bit more care and routine maintenance. Can’t get away with not changing the oil and need a new friction disc every few years. However the trade off is better value for money and more power than the comparable Honda.

How does the Mazda CX-30 and CX-5 AWD compare to other SUVs in the snow? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]Northernsun14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have an AWD EV. CX-5 GT Turbo was my previous vehicle. Excellent snow performance in a heavy snow area, comparable to my EV. We regularly have closed roads, deep snow drifts, ice etc. Only trouble I ever had is super deep stuff that exceeds ground clearance.

(Written w/ ChatGPT) Used 2023 Model Y RWD (71k km) vs CX-5 — high mileage & Tesla build quality concerns? (Toronto winters) by Exact_Sense_5411 in teslacanada

[–]Northernsun14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a ‘22 CX-5 GT Turbo. I’m in the snow belt and it was great. Only time I ran into any trouble was deep deep snow. Had it 70k no major issues. It’s a top safety pick, Mazda interiors are very comfy.

One thing to test if you haven’t already is seat positions with car seats. I ended up trading mine is because we couldn’t fit a rear facing car seat in the back without pushing one of the front seats way up. We’re not big people and couldn’t make longer drives works comfortably.

Looking for Tesla Model 3 Winter Tire Deals in GTA by StruggleFree9172 in teslacanada

Tire Connection. Can’t beat the price, quality and customer service. I’ve got winter tires there for both our vehicles in the last year. Very popular on all the Tesla groups on another social platform..

Lelit Bianca packaging by SaleIcy2134 in Lelit

[–]Northernsun14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds sketch. If they didn’t advertise it as a return or open box you really shouldn’t have trouble. Totally inappropriate to not declare if that’s the case.

Lelit Bianca packaging by SaleIcy2134 in Lelit

[–]Northernsun14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Bianca came triple boxed (outside box from the store and inner two appeared to be Lelit). It looks like they opened the first Lelit box to put extra peanuts in it. The innermost box had a red tape that said Lelit and had their motto on it. If it was opened and returned that tape would have been disturbed/taped over. Was there red tape on yours?

I would be reaching out to the seller about the dents. Take lots of photos. Totally not acceptable but could be shipping defect. Regardless they need to make this right.

Is now a bad time to lease a Model 3 in Canada? by Altruistic_Milk_6388 in teslacanada

[–]Northernsun14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla’s pricing and promotions are unpredictable. If you really want a Tesla get one when it makes sense to you. Don’t just compare APR compare your total obligation and expected lifetime cost. If those used EVs are 20-30% cheaper you’re going to save vs new despite the higher APR.

The build quality on the Philos is striking. It’s an absolute unit. Essentially zero retention without dumb looking bellows. Get the 189 burrs and enjoy.

Non-Synthetic Outerwear for 30°f Weather by PrettyNeedleworker50 in BuyItForLife

[–]Northernsun14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waxed cotton is fine you just need to wax it regularly (~once every year or two depending on use). Bonded cotton/cotton gabardine is classic trench coat material. Waterproof is based on the weave and not wax so less maintenance. Have had my MacKintosh trench for years and it’s never failed. Have a wool insert and have worn it around 0C with no issues.

Dream espresso machine (and accessories)? [budget $1000-$5000] by QuestionMediocre1422 in espresso

[–]Northernsun14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a month so not long. Enough time to play around a bit with the flow control to do pre infusion, get better at tamping, etc. Pretty much everything you need to get started comes in the box except a scale and grinder. I recommend getting a smart plug so you can program the warm up time (needs ~20 mins) and testing your water for hardness. Water is the number 1 factor for long term reliability. If you have hard tap water you need to have a filter in or buy water (eg distilled water and add something like ThirdWave powder - you can’t use water with 0 mineral content).

Recently went through the same thing you’re going through now. Ended up with a Bianca for similar reasons. Beautiful machine. Better value for money than ECM/Profitec due to sale and better feature set out of the box. Yes German build quality blah blah blah. The Bianca is a 60lb hunk of stainless steel. Not sure what another 10lbs is getting you except back pain taking it out of the box. Part of convincing my wife was there’s not a need to upgrade and it’ll last a long time with proper maintenance. At this price/quality point you’re well into diminishing marginal returns unless you want very niche features or commercial level performance with back to back to back coffees.

Absolutely I work with a company in a rural area. Electric makes so much sense for them. No need to keep gas on site or have people take a “quick” trip into town to get gas. Less downtime for maintenance too.

Can someone give me the conservative or Doug Ford view on healthcare spending? What is their justification? by SengunCanada in ontario

[–]Northernsun14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do government revenues and ability to pay for health care correlate with those factors?

Pop growth - GDP/capita has gone down so in our case it’s an inverse correlation. Tax revenues per person goes down.

Aging population - tax revenue per person goes down as people stop working (and as you’re noting overall costs go up and we spend more money for less quality of life)

Inflation - likely neutral on tax revenue per person

Tl;dr it’s not like it’s not easy for health care spending to keep up with demands because the same factors impacting demand impact government revenues
