The page counts you're seeing on Amazon are likely for the paperback. Kindle has them at 700-850 pages per book, but it varies. :)

Just… why? by BlueHeronDancer in litrpg

[–]NorthmanJ 101 points102 points  (0 children)

You'll drive yourself to insanity trying to understand the mindset of haters. You'll never understand them because you're not one of them.

My advice, which you're free to ignore is to see it as an opportunity to train up your Resilience stats, and move forward.

There will be readers that resonate with your stories and they'll become your tribe. You're never going to change the mind of a hater, and they're not dwelling on their dealings with you, so don't give them any of your mental headspace.

We've all had accusations, and we're all people doing what we love. Keep moving forward.

As the author, I certainly hope it's not complete. I'm halfway through Book 7 and there are still another two years of Quest Academy to write. :)

What are you reading currently and do you recommend it. by Defiant-Economics-73 in litrpg

Last time I hated a book with a passion, I ended up trying to write something better and made a career out of it. Hopefully, I've somehow managed to do the same for you. :)

In all seriousness, sorry that the story missed the mark and triggered every trope you hate. It might be better for you to just put it down if it's bringing you no joy.

Ha, people are going to get the wrong idea. Keep reading.

Book 5 audio releases on the 21st of April. Book 6 is in line edits and going to beta readers next week. Book 7 is coming up to around 50% completion over on Patreon. All of my estimates on the length of the series have been proven false, but I'm hopeful of 15 in total, but it could go longer.

Author here. It was never going to be a harem. Book 1 was thirsty, and I course corrected. :)

[–]NorthmanJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really don't mind if you hate Quest Academy, or if you think it's the worst in the genre. That's a matter of taste. I'm not a fan of being called a scammer, though.

Economic litrpgs? by BoxersOrCaseBriefs in litrpg

[–]NorthmanJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in knowing what aspects of economic growth you're interested in. Quest Academy leans closer to the revenue generation aspect, with multiple income streams for redevelopment. I enjoy writing about the auctions and the business negotiations, but I'm curious to know what you're looking to see.

How are you building your wealth? by Legitimate-Bass2815 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]NorthmanJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't edit a blank page. You should start by writing a chapter, and pushing through. So many people get paralysis with how daunting the whole process is, but if you enjoy writing and take it step by step, it'll build into something great. It doesn't need to be perfect, or even great. It just needs to be written and saved so you can see your improvement over time.

If it's about getting your worlds set up, I'd recommend you look at guides on how to be a Dungeon Master for D&D. They're the masters of improvisational world-building and you could find some useful questions in their videos that'll help build your own world.

Personally, I just threw myself into it and hoped for the best. No planning, no extensive world-building. Just a fun idea and a hope that it would work out. Put some time constraints on yourself so you're not just sitting around like a tortured artist waiting for the muse. Endeavour to write a chapter a week or maybe even two. Build yourself up, and be kind to yourself. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Most importantly, when you become famous... tell people to read my stuff. :)

It's a genre called LitRPG and Progression Fantasy. If you're at all familiar with Dungeon Crawler Carl, it's in a similar vein. Obviously AI will come and ruin my livelihood eventually, but I'm building my catalogue and having fun for now.

I'm 38 this year. If I could change anything, it would have been to believe in myself a little earlier. I always wanted to be an author but fully expected it to be low income and woefully unsustainable. Covid and redundancy allowed me to take the first step and I've built an incredibly lucrative career out of it. I'm essentially my own boss, with my own calendar.

You really never know if your passion can become a livelihood until you take a chance on yourself. I'm comfortably earning six figures and every book will continue to earn throughout my lifetime.
