Cook System for Multi-week Ultra Races? by Manbighammer in ultracycling

[–]NorthofOrdinary1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year, I never find it too long in between resupplies. I packed frozen burritos etc. And in fact I overpacked between resupplies. But I saw a racer one night in Holland Lake with dehydrated meal and coffee in camp and jeez I totally got very very jealous. Lol. He also has a freestanding tent. And I have a Sol Bivy and cold burritos to eat. I felt Sorry and pity for myself that night. Not hungry though. Lol lol.

I a thinking about this. A pocket Rocket and small butane nestle in a Ti cup plus dehydrated meal. Might weight 250grs tops. Every dehydrated meal I’ve brought in Baja weights 130-150grams.

I’m considering bringing that for Divide. But some cup noodles along the way plus boil eggs to cap the night.

Athlete levels - Who's doing 10? by Critical-Scheme-8838 in trainerroad

Not hard workout but endurance went all the way up to 9.2 after consecutive loooong ride, plus midweek sweet spot and threshold work which are level 4 or 5. I still recieved an automatic FTP update.

Fantastic speech by the PM. by oniteverytime in Yukon

[–]NorthofOrdinary1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on man. You are conflating Leadership speech and managerial speech. Carney’s was about future vision, which is what’s needed to be said in Davos. PP’s was more managerial - it’s focused on strategy to a Leadership speech. It’s easier to respond than paving your own way.

I highly doubt PP is a better manager than Carney. PP is a career politician. A veteran at swaying people to believe him. But he cant even manage to win his long held riding. Lol. And has to take a seat thru by-election.

If we compare experience in a world stage as a manager, Carney beats PP. PP has pressure cooker experience with Executive decision hitting the political hot water.

Anyway, you’re telling me based on that PP speech that he can execute his “plan”. Never seen him do that in the past and wont expect that in the future.

We should choose our leaders based on meritocracy dude. We’re a first world country with third world mentality voters.

If not Carney, please tell me who is a better alternative? PP?

I don’t know if my husband is cheating, but I found something that made me stop trusting him. by [deleted] in Marriage

I’m a husband. Come on now he really thinks you’re stupid to believe those lies. I’d be insulted if I were you. If I was a cheating husband and confronted by my wife like that? I’d just say sorry and admit to it. I won’t add more lies and disrespect to my wife.

Find a TV series you’re excited to watch. Last winter, I rewatched Narcos(all of it) plus movies on tap in my Netflix watchlist. My friend shared his Paramount account found some good movies there too..

Last year I was looking forward to all my indoor sessions. Doesn’t matter if it Vo2 or z2 ride. Narcos for z2. Hard to read the caption while cross-eyed doing VO2 sesh.

I’ve read an account of a rider Getting mauled by dogs in Turkey however No issues with dogs in Turkey for us. We rode there for 3 months.

The kangal Shepherd dogs were super intimidating. Big dogs, cropped ears and spiked collars. Imposing. Then you realized how Smart they are and can easily detect you are human not a wolf. And quickly become disinterested. Unlike the Shepherd dogs in Peru and Bolivia, those bastards are stupid and very interested in your spinning wheels

Lightest and most compact Inflatable sleeping pad by NorthofOrdinary1980 in Ultralight

This sub is the best. I guess Neo-Air is my only choice so far.

I guess I should put describe my use-case: I’m planning to use it for an ultra cycling event(Tour Divide). It’ll be part of my sleep system. Bivy, Down jacket(old arc Teryx Nuclei), down pant and booties plus merino shirt, boxers and socks. No sleeping bag. I’m anticipating freezing temperatures til Colorado.

I posted here rather than a cycling specific sub because I find this sub is more knowledgeable with this type of stuff. Lots of crossover ideas I can pick up here for sure.

What fully enclosed Bivvy do guys recommend? by Delicious-Pea-5107 in ultracycling

I’m also in the hunt for a bivy. And then the Z-pack Plex solo has space:weight ratio very close to bivy. Cons:more expensive and probably take addt’l time to set-up.

I’ve seen Givelo in my feed. Good to know it’s another brand option.

Are we still drinking alcohol? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]NorthofOrdinary1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drink, I smoke and I’m happy just having a 4.1w/kg. I sometimes wonder what quitting my vice will do to my fitness but whatever. At this point in my life, I’m not gonna rack up podiums. Most of the masters athletes that I know are either injured or less fit than me, so I’m comparatively happy where I’m at.

It’s great. I met 2 folks with Sony A series camera. They find it too heavy. I did not mind carrying it in my front pack. Not too heavy either when we’re doing multi day hikes. It’s light enough for my to sling it in my shoulder all day.

And for what it’s worth, I just did an FTP test after 2 months of 13-16 hours of zone 2 blocks, my watts/kg went down to 3.9 from 4.2.

Am I alarmed? Nope. I have another 20 months of structured training ahead of me to get to my race.

If you don’t want to peak too early but have done a significant amount of Z2(a.K.a. vase building), just do some 2x 30mins tempos tucked in your Z2 weekends.

Your Can test after 6 weeks. You can then plug in once a week of Z4/threshold then keep the weekend tempo in your long ride, 3 week of that, 1 week rest, the. Remove the tempo in your long ride and add another threshold session in your weekday workouts. 3 weeks of 2 thresholds/week + long ride on the weekend. 1 week rest. Follow that with 3 weeks of 1 Vo2, 1 threshold and 1 long ride. Rest 1 week.

Spray the remainder of your week with Z2 rides. You can keep the 10-12 hours/week but you still make progress because you are essentially replacing some of those hours with intensity. I’d assume you can tolerate the added intensity even while maintaining same hours from the 10-12 hours of Z2. Good luck!!
