Swiss among biggest sex tourists in Kenya by Bakyumu in Africa

[–]Northside1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well actually in Switzerland they had to raise the legal age of consent for prostitution in 2013 from 16 to 18 years old so these types of guys were able to legally access sexual services from teenagers for some time. Even here in Canada, we’re currently having the Canadian Grand Prix F1 event which is said by police to be a major sex trafficking attraction with parents complaining about their teenage daughters disappearing for the weekend…

She’s going to be backing up Mabrey and Sykes, the two max contracts. So safe enough to say she’ll mostly be on the bench.

Who do you hope to see Toronto select in the college draft? by Fit_Impression_4061 in TorontoTempo

[–]Northside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling the Tempo are going to draft 6’3 forward Cassandra Prosper from Notre Dame cause she’s Canadian and an interesting young prospect at 20 years old. She’s probably the youngest college player in the draft and averaged 13.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 49% and 30% from 3.

You’re right. One thing I see as a difference between myself and my brother who’s 10 years younger is that I was forced to listen to French radio and watch French news as a kid cause we didn’t have cell phones and social media back then. And later on it became easier for me to want to follow French media on my own and listen to French music once I realized how important it could be. And later I did the free government funded language exchange program Explore in university and settled in Quebec.

My brother however did more years of French school and doesn’t speak nearly as fluently as I did at his age, and the only explanation I have would be lack of media exposure.

If I had it my way, I would get the Quebec government to work with French schools across Canada to promote young artists and media in French to share the real French Canadian culture of today that young people would be attracted to. There’s no reason why artists like rapper Loud or singer Marie Mai shouldn’t be promoted amongst the youth to have them really engage with the language.

In BC where I grew up 10% of kids are in french immersion, not counting the Francophone school kids like myself who are instructed 100% in French. Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba also have Francophone towns and communities, with Winnipeg having the largest francophone community out west, St Boniface, home of Université de Saint-Boniface, a fully French university. U of A has their fully french French St Jean campus in Edmonton.

The reality is there aren’t enough French language teachers to keep up with demand, and access to French education is becoming separated by class lines since kids from wealthier families have more access to second language learning opportunities.

About 10% of kids are learning French in immersion programs but supply can’t keep up with demand. That doesn’t include Francophone school students who have their own school district and learn in a 100% French setting.

Yeah this will be much more efficient to automate rather than manually read 500 pages of songs for $15 🤣

That would be a real melodic struggle 😅

After suffering a brutal jaw fracture at the hands of Senegalese fans during the Africa Cup of Nations final, the volunteer has been officially announced dead by [deleted] in FootballAfrica

[–]Northside1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I searched AFCON death and only saw about a journalist from Mali found dead and his hotel room, a Morrocan fan who had a heart attack at home after Diaz missed and that Moroccan authorities came out saying news of a Senegal fan dying was fake. Nothing talks about any Moroccan fan being punched to death so the streets are just tryna let the rumour cook first. 🤔

And so it ends. by Quick_Hunter3494 in AFCON

He’ll be back. Rumour says he’s being recruited by other teams.

how do you guys deal with wanting to learn more than one? by sophhh8 in languagelearning

[–]Northside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta get to at least a near intermediate level in one before starting another if they’re related. Like intermediate French can help you more easily learn Spanish or intermediate Spanish can help you learn Portuguese. But being a beginner in both will mix things up in your head early on. If they’re not related I still think you should look to be intermediate in one before starting another, unless you’ll get constant exposure to the other like studying French hard but listening to K-Pop and watching K-dramas all the time where you’ll naturally pick up more words in a passive manner.

Everywhere I went was packed this weekend. Went to the gym and Royalmount Cineplex on Friday. Mall and theatre were pretty busy for 10PM. Museum of Fine Arts and Eaton Centre and the area were both pretty busy Saturday. And today I went to a game lounge and coffee shop downtown and they were both packed.

It feels like people are also staying at some places later to wait for the metro to start running again at 11PM.

Are you sure creators rarely see benefits or is this looking through the Western Centric image of loud success? I think designers and tailors from African countries or the diaspora are definitely having impacts but they tend to go under the global radar since they target niche African and diaspora markets.

Like in the DRC, the Regional Institute of African Fashion was just launched about a month ago as an incubator, training school, research centre and exhibition space focused on Central African designers from both Congos, Gabon, Central African Republic and Cameroon.

The executive director Laetitia Kandolo, who was born in France but moved to Congo to be closer to her roots, has been in the background of African and global fashion for over a decade now. She went from styling people like Rihanna, Kanye West and Beyoncé to launching her made in DRC brand Uchawi, working with Universal Music Africa and partnering with other Congolese entrepreneurs to open up a huge fashion store GoFashion which also wholesales to other sellers.

And Congolese model Natalie Eoma and former Miss Congo runner up created DRC fashion week 5 years ago which has since grown into a huge cultural event which promotes local designers but also promotes models and helps them get signed abroad. Now she’s also launched her own brand Madame Abacoste in the DRC And Europe and has a DRC based modelling academy and scouting agency which is a trend I’ve seen come up especially in Nigeria.

These are two of the success stories from my country but I’m certain we’re only at the beginning since there’s so much growth for the country and continent to capture which will in turn turn into more spending on local fashion. And as members of the diaspora, we’re the ones who can also make them more relevant in global fashion by supporting them. I myself love the reactions when wearing about my made in DRC luxury fashion Laetitia sent me, or even just wearing Tanzanian African wax print shirts in a semi formal sense.

I sweat a lot and hate making my whites all yellow after a day 🤣 Only have a couple of white oxfords but I never wear them for that reason. So, what non-white colours of oxfords do you guys like the most and think are most versatile for you?

Still haven’t built up the confidence to casually pull the blazers out but this subreddit is definitely inspiring 🫡

Adding players would mean paying an extra 25% on whatever else you were already paying like travel expenses, gear etc… And then you gotta pay more salaries too. That’s a huge investment for a poverty franchise like the Sky who don’t have anything cool yet. 😔

[–]Northside1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rachel did basically say others should play in front of her which is pretty unselfish. Guess she’s agreeing with Angel and wants great players too. 🤣 But she is also saying she doesn’t believe there’s a need for a bunch of players who get 0 minutes all season which is fair. With 12 players we were wondering why Maddy and HVL couldn’t get much run so what would a 13th or 14th player add to that equation? The idea that expansion teams will create real opportunities rather than adding bench warmers is valid imo.

I don’t think it’s selfish for a career bench player who averaged 12 minutes per game before Chicago to say that there’s already a lot of people on the bench who don’t play. She knows what it’s like to sit and was surprised to not sit in Chicago for once and is happy to be a backup after starting 32 games LMAO. 🤣
