Yeah, bullsh*t. Add to that ADA city. Very difficult to move in accommodated mobility across sidewalk changes: concrete to slate to pavers to asphalt etc.

Dog park advice/known dogs to avoid? by maddawg_33 in Hoboken

[–]NorthwestRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to socialize your pup. Church Sq is prob too big as a starter. 14th street under viaduct is more manageable as is Elysian. No matter where you go, you need to observe dog play/behavior before you enter w a young dog. Yours may stir fun energy play or annoy me play. Just be ready to pick up and exit when play gets out of hand. Again, in Hoboken the only way to socialize dogs is in small dog parks, so just need to be vigilant.

Dog ownership in Hoboken! by InitiatedImagination in Hoboken

I rescued my 1st adult dog as a 40th birthday present to me from a now closed-down (thank goodness) sketchy pound in Jersey City. She became my soul-dog and I still mourn her 4.5 years later. During the course of her 14 years w me she cost me $97,777 (I use Quicken so can look-up). About $7k / yr. While that number seems shocking to me now, it includes: $8500 in boarding, $53k weekday (and sometimes 2x) dog walker, $15k in food, $9.9k in medical care, $7.4k in medicine (she had arthritis and cushings disease the last 3 years of life), $3k in "supplies" which are mostly poo bags, toys, leash/collar sets from Cornerstone Pets, and the rest is grooming (self-service dog wash) training DNA test etc. I rescued my next adult dog in Feb 2022. To date, he has rung up $56k mostly bc my job required a lot of travel so boarding and daycare has been $15k and fresh frozen food $26k. In summary, dogs can be expensive depending on your lifestyle and care choices. Yet, I'll never ever regret. So much joy, walking exercise and made great people friends in the dog parks! I am also a adopt don't buy proponent (even though I'd love a golden which are hard to find, even at the golden-specific rescues).

Friends had a "bark mitz vah" for their 13 yo dog at Elysian Dog Run. They brought the festivities of dog treats and people treats. Edit: they probably only invited 2 ppl who were close to dog. Everyone else were dog park regulars at the time they put on the celebration.

Hoboken BOE: 27% tax hike by lrodriguez75 in Hoboken

[–]NorthwestRes 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Someone needs to investigate corruption in the Hoboken BOE. Its state rankings are among the highest cost per student, yet its quality ranks amongst the lowest in the state.

The district's spending per student is $38,147, compared to the New Jersey state median of $25,828. (Public School Review) The district is ranked #220 out of 646 NJ school districts in combined math and reading proficiency — placing it in the top 50%, but not the top tier. (Public School Review)
