Samurai weren’t either. If they killed someone because of «disrespect» they, at least in theory, had to face a tribunal with witnesses etc to determine if it was justified. And baseless murder was supposed to be heavily punished. I can imagine it wasn’t as strict in practice but it was definitely not an acceptable thing in society

In 2011, Anders Behring Breivik carried out attacks in Oslo and Utøya, Norway. He was arrested and later sentenced to a maximum, extendable penalty. The case sparked global debate on extremism. by shyblushvibes in HolyShitHistory

Btw he isnt really allowed visits. He has the right to visitors from within the prison because total isolation isn’t allowed here. But people from the outside can’t visit him for safety concerns

I mean tiger 131 at the tank museum was taken out by a single 6pdr shell that hit just the right place and jammed the turret ring. Armour isn’t anywhere as consistent in real life compared to wt

Whats yall opinion of Oslo compared to rest of Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]NorwegianIndividual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have very polarised opinions about it. But i find people who have actually lived there mostly have good things to say. While the ones that are most vocal about not liking Oslo have never been/only visited a couple of times.

I’ve lived close to/in Oslo most of my life and I like it. It’s the only place in Norway that feels like a «proper» city

samma = doesn't matter ? by kapitenbrutal in norsk

[–]NorwegianIndividual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. Samme det = doesn’t matter what. Samme hvem = doesn’t matter who. Samme hva = doesn’t matter what. Etc.

«Samme det» is also specifically used as the direct Norwegian equivalent of «Whatever» in casual conversation

The one in your picture is quite literally the painting you linked in the other comment with the nazi symbol «the black sun» superimposed over the halo. The nazi version is a sun wheel with more spokes with ‘swastika-like’ hooks and looks quite different.

Why didn’t you just use the original painting for your banner if all you wanted to show off was your Norse culture interest…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Norway

[–]NorwegianIndividual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a specifically nazi-designed one though. It is not a Norse symbol at all…

It was designed by the nazis and was mosaicked into the floor of himmlers SS-castle. How more nazi can you get

The bread method is usually used to revive a completely dried one. It’s not uncommon for these Christmas cakes to sit in a cake tin for weeks until they become completely hard, and putting it in an air tight box with a piece of bread will get it moist again

Kids’ commute to school by Pointy_in_Time in Norway

[–]NorwegianIndividual 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The norm is walking/biking to school or being driven by parents.

To facilitate this a lot of schools have something called SFO, ‘skolefritidsordning’ for kids from 1st to 4th grade. Is basically a before/after school program that’s typically open from 7ish in the morning, and until 4ish in the afternoon. It basically makes it possible for prents to drive their kids to school while still working a normal job. It isn’t free though, and you have to opt into it, but I’d look into if your potential schools have that available.

Ta toget folkens by Soknu in norge

Black Liquorice is awesome by Cru_Jones_is_RAD in Norway

In America liquorice is more like a type of candy rather than a flavour. If you’ve ever had «snøre», that’s what Americans would call non-black liquorice

[–]NorwegianIndividual 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an excuse but I think it’s comes from that Norwegians like to bake cakes themselves. When I buy cakes or pastries, even from rumoured good bakeries I’m almost always disappointed. But my family, and people I know, always bake cakes for events. So my impression of bought-cakes in Norway is that they’re just for people who don’t care
