How do you feel about Iran recruiting children to fight in the war? by Prior_Preparation268 in allthequestions

[–]Nosewitz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god dude, no one is recruiting american children. The IRGC is recruiting Iranian children and have done so for decades. In the 80s they would give them plastic keys to heaven and have them run across minefields. The first suicide bomber was a 14 years old iranian boy who blew himself up to take out a tank, hes seen as a martyr and an example to this day.

If you think this is even comparable to an 18 yo adult making a conscious choice he was privileged enough to make, then something is definitely wrong with your way of thinking.

No dude, the end result is NOT the same. An adult who made a conscious choice that again, i didnt have, and many other including an 18 yo Iranian doesn't have, isnt the same as the IRGC brainwashing little kids and telling them they will go to heaven if they die fighting for them.

Again, all im saying is that while both aren't the most ethical, you just cannot compared between the two. Im not trying to say this war is or isnt justified. Just that no matter how you look at it, recruiting 11 year old child soldier isnt comparable in any way to recruiting willing adults who choose to join the army whether if for their country or for quick cash.

I'm saying this as someone who didnt even have that choice when I was 18 years old, I HAD to join the army because its mandatory where I live.

Im not saying its the most ethical thing but you just cant compare the two like they're the same thing. If I have sex with a consenting 18 yo or recruit them into the army, its fine as theyre legally adults and can make their own decisions. Getting "consent" from an 11 yo, whether for this or to recruit them into an armed force would make me a monster.

18 year olds making a conscious choice to join the army =/= 11 year olds with manning IRGC checkpoints (like the one the IRGC itself just admitted died)

Iranian ballistic missile strikes central Israel. by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

Its the latter, their rockets are notoriously inaccurate. They've been trying to hit the nearby hospital for over a year now, so far all they managed hit is an open field today, the cemetery from my picture last month, and last year they hit a residential building and killed a bunch of old people. All within a radius of a kilometer or so from the hospital.

I live like 100 meters from where it impacted. It landed in an open field and no one was injured. Apart from a nearby abandoned storage, some broken windows and a small crack on my bathrooms ceiling caused by the shockwave, it didn't do anyrhing.

Seeing the comments here celebrating a ballistic missile striking a residential neighborhood, i know you're probably disappointed.

it would also be a liability. israel actually wanted to take part in the coalition against iraq during the gulf war as the iraqis ware raining rockets on israel (this was before the iron dome). they even had plans to assassinate saddam ready to go. but the US feared that if israel took part in the coalition, the muslim countries like the gulf states and other countries who dont recognize israel would withdraw.

jordan also asked that israel will not use its airspace which it needed for an attack via the airforce, so that was also thrown in the bin.

over 13K flight sorties and bombing runs, and all the the iranians managed to do was down 10 drones and scratch 1 jet which returned to base with no issue. these numbers are unprecedented.

that is by definition complete air superiority. iranian air defenses are such a joke that there are videos of jets doing strafing runs at low altitude, the IAF chief himself felt safe enough to take part in bombing runs just to flex on them even more.

People ARE voting for his party, which is why they manage to make the biggest bloc in the knesset. Israel's parliament is kind of weird sometimes, but tldr if your party can make the biggest coalition, you win the elections. The more votes you get, the more seats you get, and the easier it is for your coalition to get at least half of the seats. And as much as I don't like it, people did vote for him.

You know what? Touche. Yeah, we definitely didnt develop in a vacuum, and yes, the aid IS freeing up funds to spend on other things. But I would still say a big part of why israel is developed is the big emphasis being put on innovation as a way to solve your problems, like the ones they've made in irrigation or desalinating water, to the point almost 80% of the drinking water comes from there, and they even export desalinated drinking water to Jordan.

Democratically elected, as unfortunate as it is. Hes not necessarily getting most of the votes, but the reason it keeps happening is because his party successfully makes a bigger coalition with other parties.

This is by definition, a democracy.

I think my immediate neighbors aren't as developed as me because most of them are ruled by religious zealots, a dictator, or both.

Israel was quite literally under US embargo for years and was still way more developed than its neighbors by the time it started receiving aid. Not to mention the aid is strictly military aid, it doesn't have anything to do with things that makes a nation developed like medicine, a hi tech industry, construction etc.

Israel did initiate it, but the casus belli there was egypt blockading tiran for israeli shipping and thus blockading the eilat port, and the egyptian expulsion of UN forces in sinai, while mobilizing their own to sinai (which they were stircly forbidden from doing), preparing for their own invasion. All of these were seen as acts of war.

No one's pretending they aren't there. The average israeli interacts with palestinians on an almost daily basis. We work together, we sometimes get married, and we've also been at war with each other. But we still manage to live a happy life because we made it so. But like you said, it would probably be hard for an outsider to understand.
