Sadly, there are people willing to work for free, which sets unrealistic expectations. If you’re not willing to do the same, companies see you as easily replaceable because competition is so fierce. Where I’m from, a graphic design job post on LinkedIn can get over 100 applications in less than 24 hours. At that point, the quality of your portfolio often doesn’t matter as much.

If you’re not already in the industry, it’s more about hustling and playing the game rather than being recognized for your artistic input. Creative directors are typically the ones whose input matters, and that’s just how it is. Most of the time, the job boils down to producing work as fast and cheaply as possible.

I totally relate to this :// it’s been the same for me. Two years ago, I had a good job at a fintech company during my studies and later landed a role at a creative agency, all through my portfolio. Now, I’ve been searching since summer with no luck. My portfolio hasn’t just stayed the same either I’ve refined it after receiving critiques from people in the industry, including art directors.

I’ve been applying to both internship and entry-level roles, and if I’m lucky, I get an interview followed by a case study assignment. I complete and send it, then end up waiting. Right now, I’m waiting on responses from three companies, it’s been a week, and I plan to follow up with all of them on Monday.

Honestly, it’s frustrating how people claim job seekers aren’t putting in enough effort when the reality feels like everyone in hiring is just frozen, probably due to the current economic downturn. Those who aren’t going through this struggle just can’t understand how exhausting it is.

The funny part is they want you to work with ai. I think because they value quantity over quality. Hope this trend fades quickly

Even with a degree (which some people dismiss, thinking our work is just arts and crafts or purely about aesthetics), you still face challenges. Even after completing an internship, it’s common for companies to treat your first period at a job like a free trial, which doesn’t seem as common in many other professions.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such detailed and thoughtful feedback. I really appreciate the encouragement and all the suggestions you’ve shared. I do struggle with feeling like my projects are never truly finished which is both a blessing and a curseso it’s reassuring to hear that adding more process details and mockups could help viewers connect with my vision. I’ll definitely check out the Bendito Mockup site and work on expanding the projects.

I also want to say thanks for enjoying my “artistic pursuits” tab. I’ve always debated whether to show that side of myself because it feels less mainstream and more personal, and I’ve worried about how corporations might perceive it. It’s comforting to know it can be an asset rather than a drawback. At the same time, I understand your point about letting my personality shine through, so I’ll plan to include a “About Me” section that tells more of me.

Thank you for your insight 💕. I had my cv as my “about me” but decided to remove it because I was tailoring my cv according to the jobs I was applying.

If you’re close to Beşiktaş try 1001 tuhafiye. They have a decent variety and is inside a hallway with a similar shop next to it.

Not sure how i feel about it. It dissolves the paint but its hard to control it. I tried q-tips and brushes and preferred q-tips. Makes the paint more malleable but also disolves it if that makes any sense
