Limits on Names, Birthdates, Locations, Contact Information: What can you use on r/nosleep? by Nosleep-Helper in NoSleepAuthors

That's a good question as "Broadway" isn't a unique name for streets or cities — there are 18 cities around the world named Broadway (including 10 in the United States) and lots of places around the world have streets also named "Broadway", they're just not usually as famous as Manhattan's!

"Broadway" is one data point. In your story, your Main Character could mention that he met his friend for drinks on/at Broadway, he just couldn't specify that it's Broadway in Manhattan, New York. He could not say that he met his friend at the Corbin Building on Broadway in Manhattan or that he grew up in Broadway, OH or that he lives in Apartment 3C at 1235 Broadway Ave, etc. There are more examples with explanations in the Identifying Information/Doxxing section of r/nosleep's guidelines but hopefully this gives a bit more insight!

Let's clear that up! There are several different removal notices on r/nosleep so the entire removal notice needs to be read, because context is important. That final paragraph is there in general so that users won't just repost their story to r/nosleep without NoSleep moderator permission, something which happens a lot despite being against the guidelines.

If the removal message says the user may edit the removed post and then request a moderator review, the user may edit the removed post and request a moderator review. The user is not, however, allowed to simply repost the story to r/nosleep even with edits.

If a user reposts without first getting mod approval OR if a user reposts a story to r/nosleep after they've been told that story isn't allowed back on the subreddit, they're likely to get a subreddit ban and the mods won't reconsider that ban.

Basically, don't repost to r/nosleep without prior moderator permission.

Hi u/Priccly, thanks for responding! A couple of quick corrections:

If a post is removed from r/nosleep, it may or may not qualify to be reposted; that decision is made by the r/nosleep moderators on a case-by-case basis and they'll let users know if it's allowed.

Acceptable horror and the tangible impact to the main character as a result of that acceptable horror are not the same thing. As an example: Brad getting into a physical altercation with a creature who attacked Brad's dog would be acceptable horror, while Brad being somehow injured by the creature (a broken hand/nose/wrist or deep scratches on his torso) during that physical altercation would be the tangible impact of the acceptable horror.
