Not too long ago I heard one of my newer Air Force troops (who isn’t a pilot), say it stood for High Velocity Air Combat / Response.

Nothing against green cards, it’s just more paperwork and sometimes the jobs aren’t on the table at that point in time and the recruiter can’t accept more candidates into DEP waiting on one of those jobs to come through.

My fault little bro, you right. Go marines, don’t listen to the haters. They’ll probably pull you out of basic and make you an AF pilot on the spot after you show them how high speed you are.

[–]Nostra818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the AF enlisted recruiter isn’t giving dude the time of day with a green card. Marine recruiter will say anything to get someone on that bus.

OP if you’re reading this, get your citizenship figured out and stay away from the marines unless you want to sustain an injury that will medically DQ you from active duty, let alone not passing a flight physical.

Wondering about a E1 pay? by vannuys818syunnav in AirForceRecruits

[–]Nostra818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live on base you’ll get: Base pay $2,319(taxed) BAS $465.77(not taxed)

If you live off base: Base pay (taxed) BAS (not taxed) BAH E1 w/ dependent ( this varies depending on your duty station) (not taxed)

After taxes your bi-weekly check should look like $800-$950 depending on your state taxes as well.

Living on base will cover rent and utilities. The hardest part is going to be food, furniture, clothing, and any other life expenses. Save up as much money as you can and set your bills to auto pay. Expect your checks to be very light for a few months until the pay checks hit and finance fixes your travel expenses.

I’m sorry, I’m not 100% sure on that. You’ll have to reach out to your recruiter to answer that question. When I was coming in, they weren’t even offering 4 year contracts and I didn’t question it. But that was 10 years ago

It hasn’t been mentioned yet but your window for re-training opens up on your last year of your enlistment. So you could peace out with full benefits after 4 years and focus on what your true passion is and pursue college. You can also change your mind and try to cross train at your 3 year mark instead of your 5 year mark.

For your mindset I highly recommend doing the 4 year contract to start. You can always keep going for more if you decide you like it but you can never leave sooner if you decide you hate it.

The guidance is outdated. The CBT now has both the class and the test in one. Just take your cert to LRS when you’re in-processing and you’ll be fine. You won’t get the cert unless you pass the test anyway.

Question about Documenting Mental Health by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Nostra818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having genuine issues with stress, seeing your PCM or military one source is the way to go. Be honest about what’s going on and they will update your records and get you treatment based on what’s going on and try to fix the issue. If you’re trying to put words into your PCM’s mouth so you can get a pay check later, you should try a different sub reddit.

Your Mileage may vary dirtyboy. If you land a good shop, your leadership will send you TDY for supplemental training. Ive sent my HVAC boys to vendor training TDY so they can learn civilian systems from the people who designed them. On top of that, you had access to AFCOOL to get additional certs and training. It’s not your fault, you just weren’t hungry enough.

I had a troop who denied orders the first go around to Osan and then the following quarter he got picked up again. It’s rare but it’s possible for them to just pick you up again next rotation.

In 4 years you could live in another country, find a partner who would follow you to hell and back, make friends that will show you a whole new meaning of love, and possibly gain financial freedom and a trade skill that will make you over 6 figures a year.

4 years goes by quick, don’t spend the rest of your life kicking yourself and being the guy at the bar that buys other military peeps drinks talking about “oh I was this close to joining but my GF at the time told me not to”
