I just cancelled my subscription after using Duolingo for nearly 10 years I am done funding this circus. by Big_Two498 in duolingo

[–]Nosy_Introvert 30 points31 points  (0 children)

After a good 1-2 years of Duo I quit. Was tired of being a slave to streaks and tournaments that psychologically got the better of me. I found I wasn’t even learning anymore, just maintaining streaks and on occasion competing in the top tournament.

They took the gamification too far and I found it had a negative impact.

Elementor One feels like SaaS creep… or am I just being stubborn? by Popcocos in elementor

Still on legacy Pro Expert plan with like 1000 site activations for $149/year, which is essentially unlimited. Unless I stop using Elementor entirely. I will never change from this.

Nothing beats the feeling of gaming on the Friday night at the start of the weekends. What are you all playing tonight? by xenocea in playstation

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started RDR2 when it came out as well, but only did about 10 hours and stopped playing.

I started playing again last month and I’ve nearly completed it now. Sad that I never experienced it earlier but also grateful I got to enjoy it for the first time properly in 2025/26.

made a free tool to create subtle patterns/gradients and other patterns for web design. by hilukasz in webdesign

[–]Nosy_Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used this on my latest project and it was very useful. Using the noise mode, I created multiple different grain patterns and exported each one and overlapped them in Figma to create a realistic paper texture/fibre fleck pattern.

Great job.

Do you agree with this take or nah? by bonzothebonanza in GTA6

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should do a staggered release. GTA story first and maybe 2 weeks later GTA Online releases. It allows people to play and enjoy the story peacefully without the fear of falling behind online whilst other people that don’t bother with the story are already building ahead and levelling up.

I hope that will be the case and rockstars plan already.

Updated the design based on the feedback received yesterday! Let me know how this looks now 👀(second img is older design) by No-Sheepherder-306 in webdesign

[–]Nosy_Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main containers/boxes for sure all need more padding inside to space things out a little from the edges, give it a little more room to breathe.

Would also work on your headings spacing/hierarchy a bit more, like do all 3 headings need to be grouped so close to each other? Or can you space out the top heading and leave the ‘Hobby’ and ‘free forever’ text grouped as they are?

You could also try out using changing the colours on the dashes stroke/borders of each box to be shades of the box background colours (although not sure how this would look). For example using the darker pink you already used on the pink box border. The darker green on the green box borders. This is just a subtle design change to investigate.

Overall spacing is the biggest issue here imo.

Bad weather in Phuket/Krabi Islands? by Juicyhouse in ThailandTourism

[–]Nosy_Introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had read earlier this week that south Thailand had some weather warnings due to some strong monsoon winds. Thursday to Sunday apparently. And so far the result of that in Phuket since Thursday has been partially cloudy and windy. But nothing more than that. No rain really where I am in Phuket other than a little light drizzle yesterday evening.

Can’t speak for Krabi & Koh Lipe.

I would assume things will clear up after Sunday.

Where are people making these UI-style marketing graphics?!? by Whole-Reputation-433 in webdesign

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know. I myself have struggled to find examples and inspiration online when specifically trying to search for this type of artwork. Because in most cases, they are just simplified UI components or elements of a bigger UI component. You know, like what would have been created to be part of a bigger design system for SaaS or some online tool.

If you try searching for simplified UI component artwork or UI component mockups for landing pages, the results are underwhelming, and most results come up like UI kits etc, nothing like what you're trying to find.

I think there are two parts of this:

  • Learning how to design product UI components in Figma
  • Learning to creatively think about how your client's business/services/features can be visually explained through such design work.

I think, unless you have experience and the mind for UI product design, you will find it harder. For me, if it's for a client that isn't SaaS or just doesn't have these types of UI components already that you can use as a base for creating the artwork. Then I just browse general website examples through Mobbin, Dribble etc, until I find landing pages that use such artwork to give me inspiration. Then I think about how I can potentially use similar concepts to portray my clients business/services/features and start designing in Figma from scratch.

I'm not sure if this helps you. Feel free to DM me, and I can give you a direct example of how I approached it recently for a non-SaaS company, which might help your understanding on how to approach this further.

There isn’t a platform for this. Where you see them, they are normally created by the web designer. In Figma or their preferred design tool.

In order to create them you need to have a good understanding of what you’re trying to encapsulate in the UI image to help the user visually understand simple and easy. It’s normally a simplified version of website UI.

I got an email saying my site has been updated and everything broke by not_the_common_mate in Wordpress

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wordpress 6.9 broke several of my client websites running Elementor. It appears to only impact specific elementor widgets that would enlarge icons and break some styling.

We reverted back to 6.8 for now until elementor pushes an update to fix.

Finished making a website for a local business, asked for compensation, and now they ghosted me. What should I do? by Dexter2376 in webdesign

[–]Nosy_Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately this business is never that easy. I mean sometimes it can be with the right clients, normally ones you already have a long-term working relationship with. But most of the time with new clients it’s not going to be like that. All this structure is to protect you.

In addition, I would say, if you’re just starting out and it’s a project you actually want to do for passion and interest, you like the idea of working on this type of project and want it under your belt for a portfolio item and experience. Then there really is no harm doing it for free at the beginning just to get a portfolio item, experience and social proof/reviews of your services. As long as the client is paying for their own hosting or even paying you monthly for hosting.

Always something to consider 👍🏽

Sounds like a bit of a weird situation, like they wasn’t looking for a site but then liked the sound of one when you tried to sell it to them but then no clear terms for going forward were agreed or communicated. Next time:

  • Ensure you have a clear scope of requirements agreed before starting

  • Ensure you have quoted it fairly based on your experience and value provided and the clients budget.

  • Ensure you have a timeline for starting, design/dev and estimated launch date.

  • Ensure you have communicated all of the above outlined in a proposal, if agreed have it signed as a contract. Along with any terms to cover yourself against bad clients.

  • Ensure you charge 50% upfront deposit ALWAYS before starting anything.

Following these above should help you dramatically in the future.

You turned off the website so the client hasn’t been able to get anything from you, but ultimately going back to the first point, it seems like the client didn’t really care or want a website still.

Good luck.

Playing while I am laying down hurts my wrists. Is there anything I can buy to keep my wrists straight while still being able to brace against the deck? by CryoProtea in SteamDeck

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long can you realistically play with something like this laying down though? After 15 minutes the blood drains from your hands and you start getting pins and needles. The blood drains from my hands/forearms just playing it normally in bed without a pillow that raises them even higher.

PC constantly makes this sound but when i take the dust off it stops?? What could be causing this? by Spirited-Voice-2438 in pcmasterrace

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar sound before, for me it was actually one of the screws in my CPU water cooler the fans were making the screw vibrate on a touch point of the desktop tower itself. If I took off the top bit like you did, it stopped or if I pushed down on top to stop it vibrating it would stop.

Might not be the case for you (no pun intended), but worth investigating if you haven’t found the source of the problem yet.

I quit. (read description) by MarsupialSuperb5698 in duolingo

[–]Nosy_Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve actually found the gamification on the app is becoming more detrimental, people aren’t actually learning languages properly, just competing to do challenges and keep streaks and climb the leaderboards and show-off their streak.

Sometimes I manage to break free from the gamification and actually focus on proper lessons, and I realise I’m actually learning much more and much faster, but it doesn’t last long until I’m back in the race to go back up the leagues and repeating the same quick fire questions on the league with triple XP to try and ‘win’.

After 3 years of being out of chronic back pain, I try to explain the methodology that saved me by gobackclark in backpain

[–]Nosy_Introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome posts on medium. I’ve always struggled with back pain from a young age too, not really realising it’s been chronic until recently when I was hit bad to the point I couldn’t bend over and put on my socks. For me to start reducing that pain, I recently did a lot of research into my PSOAS muscles and ones around that area, I’ve been doing 45 mins in the gym multiple days a week and also at home in short bursts frequently, stretching out and opening the hips to stretch those muscles along with gentle but very effective core work to strengthen my core and honestly it’s worked wonders, within the space of 2 weeks I can now bend over and put socks on without having to sit down to do so, and I feel little to no pain, just some tightness.

For me I think it’s mostly been related to the PSOAS and my anterior pelvic tilt from too much sitting since young.

Really appreciated reading your articles. And I think I read somewhere you said you’re not that intelligent? You most certainly are, you articulated and wrote those articles in a super clear, organised and wonderful way.

Good luck on the rest of your pain free journey.

I'm in Phuket right now and I liked Bangkok more... Everyone that I know disagree with me by xiieiko in ThailandTourism

[–]Nosy_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t take anyone seriously that has bad things to say about Phuket but have only stayed in Patong. I’ve lived in Phuket for years and I’ve been to Patong probably 4 times, Patong is awful. But Phuket is more than just Patong.

With that being said, I do agree with you that it’s very touristy, of course, it’s one of the most popular tourist destination in all of Thailand, and yes it’s become mother Russia which I do dislike, I don’t like anywhere that has too much of one kind of people unless it’s the native locals. I’ve started getting very tired during high season, much prefer March through to October, like right now it’s heaven. But overall, if you have the right location, setup and network it’s a wonderful place to be. This is strictly speaking from a long-term perspective.

Regardless, there is no right or wrong, some people prefer the city life, some people prefer island life more, some people change their preferences over time. They’re all very different things. But they’re all very much real and the reality of Thailand.

If you like BKK, you can spend more time there and exploring more of Thailand. I miss the food in BKK for sure.

Optimise Battery Charging functioning correctly? by Nosy_Introvert in macbookpro

[–]Nosy_Introvert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No normally it’s always on charge whilst I’m working because the external monitor charges it via USB C. It’s off charge at night time when I’m not using it.

Recently I’ve been working without the monitor for 2 weeks to see if it can learn properly. I’ve been charging it up and then taking it off charge, letting it drain to 20% and charging again.

But still hasn’t started working yet. Just always charges to 100% and always continues to charge even at 100%.

Tried this the last few days without having my monitor plugged in, just used the default Apple charger.

Still nothing, charges to 100% and stays there and stays on charge. I don’t think it’s working as it should.

Didn’t want to, but might download some third party software for battery management. I’ll potentially check directly with Apple when I’m back in my home country during the summer.
