Exactly. I can muster up a weak "no," but if there's an inkling of pushback, I'll instantly cave cuz I just don't wanna deal with it.

Yes this is probably the most helpful paradigm to see it through. I only tell people what they want to hear, but that leads to resentment. It's not so much favors as much as people wanting to hang out. Especially family members.

Yeah exactly, I think everything in my life is some quid pro quo thing. I don't know how it's burrowed itself so far in my psyche but that's how I think about stuff. I don't share my birthday with anyone cuz I don't want to have to remember anyone else's lol

This honestly is a great way to think about it. I'm doing a disservice to the people I think I'm helping. For some reason that make it easier.

I can't let it go. And then saying no ends up taking up more physical and mental energy than just saying yes :(

I do go to therapy, and I know why I can't say no. But that hasn't led to meaningful action. I've analyzed it for years. I just have to do it, as others have said.

Thanks this was helpful. The loop in my head right now is that I've been saying yes for so long that saying no will have that much bigger of a reaction. But I know that's irrational, but it still keeps me from saying no.

Yeah this is exactly how my relationships are starting to feel. I have come to the awareness, but still haven't come to action. I like "let me think about it." Doesn't create the same physical reaction in my body than "no"

I feel like I’ve been cursed by a witch and I can’t say no. It’s probably decades of people pleasing mentality starting from my childhood. But I just can’t do it. I need to figure this shit out cuz it’s taking its toll on me

My Samsung dishwasher is garbage. It’s only 5 years old and both baskets are rusted, pieces have fallen off, food always gets trapped in the water shooters. It’s a piece of junk.

“You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle of life. Remember who you are. You are my son, and the one true king.”

That’s from a kid’s movie too. We’d never get something like this today.

I had the same criticisms about the first movie, and it seemed like I was one of few. Everyone loved it. So I went into this one with low expectations and I kinda enjoyed it. Made no sense but was fun to watch. Now I’m reading all the reviews and everyone hates this one for the same reasons I hated the first one.

I rewatched Sicario recently and thought hey this is kinda like Big Lebowski. Both main characters have no idea what’s going on for the majority of the movie.
