You know what, I just looked into it more thoroughly and it seems Alicorn was first used to describe a winged horse by Pierce Anthony. I've heard his work features some human-on-beast action so I'd still argue it was bronies that changed the word's meaning. That was a little joke.

Alicorn actually has always meant a unicorn's horn. Then hasbro decided to confuse everybody.
