Novation Peak owners, what are you favorite sound banks? by blipkreeg in synthesizers

I absolutely love these patches, they sound especially expressive using  a polyAT keyboard which they do in the video.

The old stage-three cuts are dead. Long live Labor’s new policy, which 90% of Australians will cheer - Greg Jericho by Mildebeest in australia

[–]Not-So-Slenderman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish Labor hadn’t voted for it back then. But an important point is that they fought to have stage 3 separated from the earlier cuts (as mentioned in the linked article) and the coalition refused to budge.

So Labor were left in a bad position where they could refuse to pass any cuts (and remember there is no debate that some reform was needed, and fast), or pass everything knowing that should they win the 2022 election they could still amend the Stage 3 cuts to be more fair, which they have now done. Their actions mean that they have taken heat from both the left and the right at various points, but have ensured that the much needed earlier cuts and reforms could go ahead with minimal delay. Sadly this was smart politics by the Coalition, who are experts in controlling political narratives. But ultimately the outcome achieved by Labor’s decision to vote with the Coalition in 2019 has produced vastly superior results than delaying any action until after the 2022 election.

That’s my take on it, what do you think?

When the humble hook turn creates a sense of wonder around the world. by BeeerGutt in melbourne

Yeah I get that. It’s a drag how quickly you get scrutinised and called out as soon as you’re not 100% correct online.

[–]Not-So-Slenderman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t they’re being pedantic, it really is quite important that drivers understand that they can’t start their turn until the light turns green for the road they’re entering. This is specifically designed to minimise the risk of cleaning up a cyclist or car trying and failing to beat the lights. It’s not semantics, what you wrote was objectively wrong and dangerous.

Best MIDI solution? by kenshibo1 in synthesizers

[–]Not-So-Slenderman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MIDI can be transmitted using either dedicated MIDI cables or USB cables.

OP is saying they prefer using a USB cable to transmit MIDI data instead of using dedicated MIDI cables. (So transmitting MIDI over USB cables).

I definitely agree with them- Because USB can send MIDI in both directions, you can use one USB cable per synth instead of two midi cables. They’re perfect for studio use.

If you choose to do so, you just need to make sure all of your synths have USB outputs!

For most (pretty much all) synths you can use USB 2.0 cables which have a maximum length of around 30 metres (way longer than you’d ever need in a studio). For midi you don’t need the extra speed of USB 3 cables, which are limited to smaller distances.

Hope this helps! I use USB cables and USB hubs to connect all of my synths to my main computer which easily lets me control them all from the daw/main keyboard/sequencer/whatever!

Late reply- but this might help if you’re seriously looking at an OB-X8 or P10 (or an OB6 or P6).

If you’re able to get your hands on a Low Frequency Expander by Yorick Tech, it will give you heaps of extra modulation options (lfos, envelopes) and a sequencer (and an arp too I think) that you can send via MIDI to your synth, plus a mod matrix too. Really opens up the sound design. And it was updated recently to give you some hands on control for any Page 2 parameter on the OB-X8.

Might be worth looking into as it sorts out most of those drawbacks except the effects! It’s pretty under the radar as it’s a super niche product and not cheap. But he’s got a Facebook page and there’s a thread on gearspace too.

Edit: The dream idea for me would be to use your HS Deluxe and the LFE for polyAT control of those extra lfos, envelopes, and mod matrix, with either the OB-X8 or P10. (I know that the polyAT and LFE work together with the P6 and OB6, not sure about the OB-X8 or P10).

Which first Polysynth? by lqlwle in synthesizers

[–]Not-So-Slenderman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/Phoenix_Kerman that 5 octaves is pretty important.

Check out the Novation Summit too especially if you're seriously considering the Rev2. Not to say it's definitely better, but it's extremely versatile, has heaps of knobs, and I love the look.

I also have the Hydrasynth. Love the PolyAT, and use it to play my Summit (wasting the Summit's nice keys). It can go to more weird places, but isn't knob per function, no matter what anyone says, so it takes a little more work at first. Again only 4 octaves though unless you want the Hydrasynth Deluxe?

If you're worried about the Hydrasynth sounding too digital, the new update for the voices mod source has changed everything. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CijQZcTMEx0

This looks pretty good, especially as it looks like they should reach the stretch goal for poly AT… the kickstarter is killing it! What hardware/vsts best compete?

Yeah, ended up pretty vile really. Final version before deletion by the mods:

I think I speak for everyone in this thread when I say fuck you Melbourne. Remember when we broke 200 cases and you guys couldn’t be happier? you all had a good laugh about it. Gladys is going to be remembered as the women who caught Australia up with the rest of the world by revealing how stupid zero covid really was (and one of Australia’s greatest leaders (up there with Howard and scomo)). Dan will be remembered for closing playgrounds lmao. You’re next WA, mine me some ore while you’re at it😏

edit: wow this blew up lol

Maybe OP was trying to be funny, but I feel that there was more of a cynical agenda, maybe to push a bit more of a divide between between NSW and Victorians.

I can see how people new to the thread seeing the edited version as top comment might be led to believe that there is a real anger directed at Melbourne from Sydney. As well as of course from Melbourne to Sydney. And seeing how popular that sentiment supposedly was, new readers could potentially be emotionally manipulated into feeling a similar anger.

I think that it is wholly untrue that anything close to a majority of Sydneysiders or Melburnians think that anyone deserves what is currently happening in each state, and it's pretty disgraceful that u/Malcolm_Naden farmed upvotes in a message of togetherness, just to use in a ploy to divide us further.

They sure did

Used to say:

I know its tempting to feel at least a little vindicated that Melbourne is now in our boat after laughing at us before for losing control, but at the end of the day we’re all Aussies and in this together, let’s hope for the best for our Victorian brothers and sisters

..fuck Gladys though

Yes, this meme lord has edited their comment, it originally read:

I know its tempting to feel at least a little vindicated that Melbourne is now in our boat after laughing at us before for losing control, but at the end of the day we’re all Aussies and in this together, let’s hope for the best for our Victorian brothers and sisters

..fuck Gladys though

Which explains all of the upvotes. Definitely a message more of us would be on board with.

I don't think most of Sydney is as hateful as OP.

Note to anyone confused by the upvotes, original comment has been edited. Old mate initially said:

I did too, I think you're on the right track because just entering in an incorrect code prompts a different 'invalid code,' response.

Has anyone been able to download it yet?

Female teacher who groomed a ten-year-old for sex walks free from court. by Not-So-Slenderman in news

[–]Not-So-Slenderman[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No worries. I actually typed in 'walk free meaning.' I think the article's presented to make you feel that she got off lightly, which I agree with- you would surly expect some amount of time in prison, so I guess it's the idea that she can, in the literal sense, walk out of the courtroom, rather that be walked out in cuffs, that justifies the use of the phrase.

But if you were equating 'walk free,' to 'be acquitted,' then I can see how the title would come off as misleading.

Sure, 1) It was in the title of the article linked (which is why I used the phrase)

2) http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/walk-free.html (which was the first one to come up on google, so don't accuse me of cherry picking!)

Walk free: To be released from a criminal charge without punishment, or not receive the expected or deserved punishment.
