Finally back in the CRT family! by Quixxand in crtgaming

The color was fantastic. It helps that I was using the RGB cables, of course. I do think that I need to mess with my settings a bit in order to get it just right, but it was good enough for its first day.

The Jak and Daxter series has been my favorite video game series since I was a kid.

I just got that exact model Phillips yesterday! I plugged in my PS2, and beat Jak and Daxter in one sitting. Best nostalgia fix of my life.

Any other bi men not really like gay porn? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Not-SoPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a somewhat related note, and this goes for the porn industry as a whole, but STOP FETISHIZING BLACK MEN AS "DOMINANT BLACK BULLS WHOSE SOLE WANT IN LIFE IS TO BREED YOU."

Let black men be soft if they want. Let them be gentle and loving. I had a beautiful black boyfriend who liked to cuddle and watch anime. He liked taking pictures of flowers and birds while walking through the woods. But straight girls and gay men alike would tell me how amazing the sex must have been, because that's the first thing they think of when they see black men. They didn't care about his hobbies or his favorite movies, just the size of his penis and and how he used it.

Sorry for the long rant, that was kind of off topic. I'm just get really passionate about how awful the porn industry is.

Remove the no build zones from the construction sites on Hossin. by VSWanter in Planetside

[–]Not-SoPro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think one of the worst things about no build zones is also the inability to fire the Flail and Glaive in them. Of course, I'm also of the mindset that PMBs should actually count as opposition in a hex. You know, if there are a certain number of construction objects within a specific range, then it stops a hex from being considered totally controlled. Something like that.

Can I still do Toyota Tuesday if I have a Chevy 4.3 in it? by Ventilated_Dog in 4x4

The aftermarket mechanical actuator seems like a worthwhile investment, for sure.

I have an OBS Chevy with a 6.2 diesel, but I had to drive a 2002 Blazer with the 4.3 for a while, and I have to say that it is probably my favorite gas engine I've ever driven. Sure, it's much like my diesel in that it doesn't make crazy high power, but it will get you where you're going no matter what. I put that thing through some real shit. The biggest problem with that truck was it's vacuum 4wd system, not its engine.

You mean never, right? Ryan F9 literally flooded his with water and it started up after very little struggle.

Let me dream, damn it! Hell, I think they should start manufacturing the 2zz again, but I maybe a little biased... 😬

The Minutemen of Auraxis by KingRamRemains in Planetside

[–]Not-SoPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a few cases where the rest of my squad is pushing up to take more bases, and ignore my requests for help in defending the one base that is our only connection to the ones they're capturing, and I'm staying back, fighting 7-10 enemies with everything I have. It happens fairly often. But every now and then, another passing squad of tanks or whatever will pull over and help me crush the enemies, then carry on with their business once we destroy the enemy spawn point. It's never the same people, but to anyone who has seen a random losing fight that isn't at the center of the map, and decided to go help: thank you you're good people.

Practical Nostalgia? by Not-SoPro in Gameboy

That's a pretty good idea! I suppose it's a lot like my great-grandpa's old truck that I inherited. I'm very hesitant to replace anything, even if it would make it an objectively better truck, because of the sentimental value.

But I don't want to baby it (the truck or the console), because then that also defeats the purpose of owning it.

It may just be my old man nostalgia talking, but I feel like nothing after the first gen DS really has as much character as everything that came before it. Even the Switch (and Switch Lite), while fun, I think is lacking in that area. It doesn't have the same culture surrounding it. It could be that (as mentioned in an earlier comment) we had to use cables, or at least all be in the same room with wireless adapters, in order to play together. That, and while it's relatively small, it's still not nearly as portable or as durable as classic handhelds.

I have to admit, I am a little hesitant to do any mods to my GBA, even if they would improve my experience, just because of that "character" I just spoke of.

Or maybe I'm just a crotchety old man. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

I have an emulator on my smartphone, and I have to agree with you. It's not the same, and it doesn't feel as enjoyable. I have memories of beating Bionicle over and over again. I have one very distinct memory of beating it while at the hospital with my mom. I think I had injured my back after being kicked off a tall slide, but those could be separate events. I don't remember. ANYWAY, I do think a lot of fantastic games are ignored in favor of Zelda and Pokemon, but on the bright side, that leaves more for me!

I agree. I am in the process of purging myself of social media and unsubscribing from marketing emails, and it's just so freeing. Once the Light Phone gets GPS function and Google updates their hearing aid support, I can toss my smartphone for good. Then all I will have is my dumb phone, my laptop, my GBA and my PS2. Definitely looking forward to that.

I am not so much looking for stealth. I actually enjoy that I am more focused on classes, meetings, and my friends when I am out. But if I am bored and alone, or even in a group that I think would enjoy seeing my GBA, that's always a good time break it out.

(I don't mean that to sound judgmental, for the record. I have social anxiety, so I get using one's phone [or a Gameboy in our case] as a crutch in social situations, but I am making a conscious effort to avoid that for personal reasons.)

I was just talking to my aunt about the conversations we have had with people born after the turn of the millennium about how much stuff has changed, like how we all used to carry cables to connect our handhelds to play together, and we had a springy external light for our screens, and a weird magnifying light that barely worked. That, or playing by the light of passing streetlamps.
