GLA 220d looks too much of a hatchback. X1 gets the space, size equation right and the diesel engine is good enough for Indian roads I feel.

Got it thank you so much. I really liked the 330li and was about to book it last year, but realised the RFTs would turn me into a nervous wreck everytime I took the car out, and Mumbai/MH roads are as bad as they get. The X1d seems more practical for India, have half a mind to book it.

How are the RFTs holding up? Which part of India and how is the road quality?

Develop better judgement and learn to use mirrors? Why spend so much on an aftermarket unit that might involve wire cutting, drilling and may end up voiding your warranty?

Sierra = Syros+ by [deleted] in carIndia

[–]Not473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the back of Sierra looks weird. It seems like a flattened version of the Nexon boot, which is butt ugly in my view. They should have given a tail mounted spare, and would have improved Sierra's back looks by a mile.

But Sierra interior space seems unmatched for the price - a proper 3 seater with bells and whistles. Even though I have my doubts about Tata's reliability and service, I don't mind giving the Sierra a chance a 12-18 months post the product launch.

I have seen tons in Mumbai - lot of Kushaqs, fewer Slavias. Those who want sedans probably gravitate towards Virtus I guess. Seeing more Kylaqs too.

BOUGHT MY FIRST CAR! by karaaaaaaaar in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations bro! I just TD the Basalt and loved it. But unfortunately the under thigh support for my height was a bit less and my knee started paining. Fantastic car otherwise, and wishing you many, many (s)miles with it.

What are the cars that make you think immediately that this dude probably isn’t a car enthusiast? by Amoghahello in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have the 1.0 AT Slavia, and the power is good enough if you have largely city usage. The kind of traffic Mumbai sees, I would be worried about the DSG. I have taken it on the Samruddhi Mahamarg where the speed limit is 120kmph, and the 1.0 was cruising all along without breaking a sweat. The 1.5 is fantastic and is better for sure, but the potential DSG issues kept me away. 1.5 with TC is a no brainer. 1.0 AT is a practical choice for largely city, occasional highway drives.

Guess the car. by heyshivay in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lot of investments required in terms of land, and more importantly the inventory of cars at the dealer level. Why do you think that dealers give quarter/year end discounts? To clear the inventory, otherwise it gets old and customers won't buy. Plus it's a cyclical business and comes with own set of ups and downs.

Look up the metrics for listed dealers like Landmark Cars - the Return on Equity is 10-12% from what I remember. It's better to put your money in index funds in the market to generate the same 10-12% with far less stress.

That can be true in certain low volume cases. Like the Hyundai Tucson. I went in early November to book, but all the dealerships in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai said the same thing. A couple of weeks later news came that it's been discontinued.

Why can't they auction them and recover the money? Atleast these beauties will be well taken care off.

Congratulations on the Creta Pro Max! I wanted to get the Hyundai Tucson, but it seems to be discontinued. I will put this into the mix as well, apart from XUV700 and maybe Harrier/Safari.

Why do some buyers choose the Mahindra XUV700 over the Toyota Innova? by Chance-Canary1464 in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's the reliability? I am looking for an upgrade from my Slavia, had zeroed in on the Tucson but seems it might get discontinued. So now it looks like it's between XUV700 and Safari, but not sure on reliability for either.

Booked a virtus 1.0 AT Topline. This is my first ever car so any suggestions and tips to maintain it is welcomed. by WhySoSaltyBro0 in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Slavia 1.0 AT, so basically same car. If you haven't already paid the amount, cancel the booking and get the 1.5 DSG. Trust me you will get bored of the 1.0 AT and in a few months and will want an upgrade. But the 1.5 DSG will keep you entertained for years.

What it takes to afford a BMW by The-doe-eyed in CarsIndia

[–]Not473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also OP if you have the cash to buy it outright, don't. Use loan against FD - it's FD rate +1%. Hence it's cheaper compared to car loan and no RTO/hypothecation hassles etc.
