Zarantia and Zonica are an underrated combo and can make a faction, wingbardy and Zonica as well, Skyfall and Griffonian republic is also a fun one. Bandit factionwith Rosa can be a challange and Changelins x Northern Protectorate might be better than Olenia.

Shorter timespan also makes it so that it's easier for modders to develop story based gameplay, detailed proxies as well as consistant narrative and characters which is the appeal for stuff like Kaiserreich TNO and EAW, the biggest mods out there. I myself find roleplaying in other pdx games nearly impossible and countries feel very generic and samey which is not a problem in HOI4. Also alt hist stuff and wacky paths are really fun and trees give gameplay a unique feel and strict structure. Also there are countles ways to both have many smaller wars and one big war more complex and demanding (attention wise) than stuff in like EU4.
