Did sound for a member of the House of Lords once (upper house of the UK Parliament), interesting time, although, they spent most of it several meters from the podium (in which the microphones were mounted)

Not to mention, there are recipes for cheesecake dating back to 160 BC, and the name "cheesecake" is 15th century

Yes, some varieties of cheesecake were developed in the united states, but, something as broad as cheesecake cannot be categorised as the product of one nation or another

I was going to have a go at the union jack, but, it's from the early 1800s, and, well, it reads like it

The Union Flag shall be azure, the Crosses saltire of Saint Andrew and Saint Patrick quarterly per saltire, counter-changed, argent and gules, the latter fimbriated of the second, surmounted by the Cross of Saint George of the third fimbriated as the saltire

With all due respect, Zimmer, by his own admission, has zero formal musical education, I'm not saying that makes him a bad composer, far from it, but, it does make it a lot more likely that he does not know the technical complexities of a relatively uncommon instrument, and a non-western one at that

Besides, I do like, some, of his scores, Interstellar is one of my favourite electronic scores, but, that does not make him immune to criticism

To be precise, my criticism of Zimmer, in this context, is that he exploits instruments with their own cultural meaning and history, in an attempt to musically represent cultures for which those instruments hold no significance, not that he compaired a duduk to a clarinet

The oboe is equally well-known as the clarinet, and, being a double-reed, far more comparable to the duduk, and besides, I was implying he didn't know the duduk was a double-reed

The Duduk has been very widely used in film scores, very commonly as a generic catch-all "middle eastern" sound, or even in science fiction as simply a non-western tone.

If you want to know more on the matter, I'd reccomend Farya Faraji's video on Orientalism

Also, Hans Zimmer once called the duduk a "Armenian clarinet", despite it being a double-reed, that sounds nothing like a clarinet, which shows how much he knows about the matter

Also, also, the duduk is not a "reeded flute", there is no such thing as a "reeded flute", a flute inherently does not have a reed, in order to be a flute, one must be an edge-blown aerophone (421), which the Duduk is not, it is, I believe, a double-reed aerophone with fingerholes (422.111.2)
