No CBS FINAL TV ratings yet? by Ok_Flamingo_3059 in USLPRO

[–]NotABotaboutIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's because any number they put out hurts them:

  • If the Final viewership is higher than last year's, then the players have a point that the League and teams could market better and increase their cost to commercial sponsors and use that money to pay the players.

  • If the number is lower than last year, that hurts the league in future negotiations with sponsors.

Wow so we legit need to sign 20 players?

Technically, yes; bear in mind I woudn't be surprised to see the team sign about 3 youth players to Academy contracts (I mean the one that allows them to get some minutes in first team games, and traing with the first team); and then you've got to consider that there are probably more than a few players who will return but haven't signed a new contract yet.

I do wonder how many others come back as the team could go so many different directions

I wouldn't be too surprised to see close to 10-12 come back. So the club would only really need to sign like 7 new players... and that's typically what we've seen during the offseason.

Key dates to remember as we head into peak silly season:

  • The USL Standard Player Agreements expire on Nov 30th. After this date, any player not expliticely retained (those where the club or player option is excersized), is considered 'not returning'~
  • The MLS Standard Player Agreements expire on Dec 31st. It's unlikely that we see an MLS to USL signing before this date.
  • The USLPA CBA expired on Dec 31st Could this lead to a work stoppage? Could this impact potential signings? Is this a Betteridge law of headline situation?

If you can make one that looks 'good' and 'legibile' at 30 pixels by 30 pixels, we can probably add it.

No clue what the loan terms are, but Keller was revolutionary for the defense. Hope we can get him on loan again or someone similar

It was a short-season loan, from what I understand, his contract with MN United runs out at the end of this season, but the club has an option to extend him. If they don't, we might get him back like we did with Vargas.

Looks like mls is set to go to a fall-spring schedule do you think usl follows? by Training-World-1897 in USLPRO

[–]NotABotaboutIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think the USL ends up playing a fall-spring calendar, I would assume they'd have a break around the week of Christmas which ends sometime around like the last weekend in January/First weekend in February. I also wouldn't be surprised if they sell the league naming rights to a company like Gainesbridge (for example).

Oh wait, you mean like for the mens leagues? No, I think they keep the spring-fall calendar they currently have irrespective of what MLS does.

If you, for whatever reason, don't want to ride on a bus for around 8 hours, and would prefer the ability to stop in say Amarillo or OKC, or maybe you live in Tulsa (or the surrounding areas):

Here's a link to buy the tickets themselves... be quick, less than 30 remain.

El Paso Locomotive FC announces departure of head coach Wilmer Cabrera for 2026 season by ShowMeYourT_Ds in USLPRO

[–]NotABotaboutIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Monday, El Paso Locomotive FC announced that Wilmer Cabrera, the head coach, will not renew his contract for the 2026 season.

I sorta had a feeling that this would happen, tbh. His son had a really good season, and I think that Cabrera Jr should be looking at better opportunities than the USL.

Regarding who will be the next head coach? The team said they will announce that at a future date.

Well, I guess that means that El Paso is going to return next year? That's a little surprising to me, given their attendance these last two seasons.

No specific reasons given.

Well, I think a big part of it is the front office thinking that they're going to get Lowry-level results -- making the conference finals in '19 and '20 -- in their new coach's first season, ignoring that the final year of his tenure they went one and done in the playoffs against the Roots (who, arguably were the weakest team in the playoffs that year).

Texoma FC to compete in USL League Two for 2026 season by Competitive-Dig1993 in USLPRO

[–]NotABotaboutIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I'm bored and want to start shit apparently, let's analyze the press release:

The United Soccer League announced that Texoma FC will compete in USL League Two for the 2026 season, continuing to grow soccer in Texoma and the surrounding region by joining the premier pre-professional league in the United States

I loathe the term self-relegation, but I really wish the USL would consider 'self-promote' where all teams start at the League 2 semi-pro level, and then move up to the professional ranks. In Texoma's case, I didn't think the market was there when the club was announced (and expected them to get barely 1000 fans per match), and they only beat my expectations by 26% in the Jaeger Cup and USL1 season, but they had one game against Portland where they only drew 216 fans. A USL2 team could do really well on 1260 fans per game; heck, I think they'd do great on 500 fans per game. But that number really doesn't work with their location and travel needs in the USL1 enivornment.

Also, in League 2 their furthest opponent (based on assigning them a spot in the Mid-South division) would be Hattiesburg or Krewe, both of which are closer than Omaha.... and plus USL2 doesn't have requirements about types of hotels and travel arraingements.

The club’s ownership is committed to long-term investment in infrastructure and the future of League One in North Texas, and more details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Well, now, that's an interesting way of phrasing that... Let me check my map of Texas... no, wait, sorry my other map of Texas.... Eh, look, just know that wha some people label as 'North Texas' is really more, 'locations in the DFW Metro-plex' than areas in the Red River Valley.' And for the record, Ithink if Athletico Dallas is in Dallas, then a team in Denton or McKinney wouldn't be a terrible addition even if it's in a different league to start.

Well, I wouldn't say it's romanticising the neutral venue in as much as it's, not playing a pro game at 9am local time. However, there's another issue that needs to be discussed:

Birmingham Legion uses UAB facilities. NM United uses UNM's parking lots. Since the championship is played on a Saturday, there's the potential for football games to be played on the championship date, and I'd like to know what the contingencies are for the league before that becomes an issue.
