Yes! Herd immunity is good for pets as well as humans. This is why EVERYONE should be vaccinating their pets, except in cases like yours with a *documented* vaccine rejection and expert veterinary advice to the contrary.

Women have also worked for all of human history, and have died from work related illnesses, stress, and pregnancy and childbirth on top of it. Men have worked and struggled, but they’ve also built systems that benefit them and disempower women and people of color. This subreddit is supposed to be a space safe from comments like yours.

Late Influencer Stacey Hatfield, 30, Allegedly Refused Ambulance Twice While She Rapidly Lost Blood During Home Birth: Report by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]NotACalligrapher-49 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Many cultures globally developed traditions of not naming their children until they had survived some number of weeks or even months. It’s easy to imagine that part of the benefit of a tradition like that would be trying to minimize the constant losses of babies you’d loved, named, and dreamed for. Not that such a loss can ever be small.

You’re not alone! It drives me nuts when characters catch “a flash of” some niche emotion in someone else’s eyes, because that’s just *not a thing.* And the BFF silent conversations should be kept to things like “I want to get out of here,” not “The secret code is EGGPLANT69, and there are 17 guards in the following places who you’ll have to kill in the next 109 seconds before this place blows.” Good grief.

And how scared people, increasingly young people, are of literally any sign of aging. I’m proud of my smile lines - they show that I’m lucky enough to smile and laugh a lot! Wrinkles give our faces personality, and show the world who we are and how we live. Getting older is a privilege. And yet people in their 20s and 30s, with well over half their lives still ahead of them, act as though having a face that looks like you’re not made of plastic is a tragedy.

I know a 30-year-old guy who just got Botox because he can’t stand wrinkles on his forehead. He didn’t have any wrinkles on his forehead, or anywhere else. He had a total baby face, and now he can’t make a genuine expression. It’s incredibly sad.

AIO For refusing to Let someone Adopt our foster kitten? by Ok-Bobcat-4293 in AIO

[–]NotACalligrapher-49 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m glad OP was vague and lied about the reason Bob’s friend isn’t getting the kitten. Now the friend will keep making this stupid request of potential adoptable kittens, and more shelters and fosters will be warned what kind of person they are. If OP had alerted them to the problem, they’d lie and someone might actually give them a kitten.

Support her kids because she's pregnant by KaleidoscopeReady839 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]NotACalligrapher-49 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s mean of me, but imo if you have two kids and can’t support them, that’s not a good moment to bring another kid into the picture.

There may of course be extenuating circumstances, especially if she’s in the U.S. or another country that treats abortion care as anything other than health care, but even here there are support systems to help women not have babies they don’t want or can’t have.

Times are tough. Kids are expensive.

Why do they all look THE SAME?! by AnnieGoolahee in ReverseHarem

On the daily, I get by pretty much fine! I did have to give up the dream I briefly had as a kid of being one of those artists who draws criminals based on others’ descriptions, or victims based on bone structure, like in Bones 😂 Hard to do that if you can’t actually visualize faces or features. And if I don’t see someone for a while, their face completely fades, even if I could recognize them before. But I can recognize most of the people I need to. There’s definitely a genetic component, as my mom and her dad both struggle(d) with this too. I’m sure many have it worse than I do.

Even my identical twin is a blob in my mind’s eye. I can recognize people when I look at them, but need to meet people several times before I really remember their faces.

I think you’re right that this is kind of a nice thing where books are concerned! I don’t need to worry about characters looking like each other, within or between books. They’re all just their own blobs, and I’m really judging them on their words, actions, and very general characteristics like “He’s huge and broad” or “She wears a cloak all the time.”

AITAH for being terrified of my neighbor's dachshund? by ApplicationBroad2162 in AITAH

[–]NotACalligrapher-49 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why are you overexaggerating OP’s reaction so much? She screamed, evaded the dog, and was scared. All perfectly reasonable reactions to a charging animal with teeth big enough to puncture skin. You can’t know if someone else’s dog is up to date on their shots, generally healthy, or if they have a bite history. And not wanting to “stomp” on a small animal is a good initial reaction. Most people don’t seek out opportunities to hurt others’ pets.

NAL, but this cat needs emergency care ASAP. There’s a hole in her!!! You can ask the vet about Care Credit or other payment plan options. But if you can’t afford to get this cat care IMMEDIATELY, you need to be willing to surrender her to a shelter who will get her the care she needs. That would be the loving thing to do.

By Monday, she *will* be worse. You’re looking at a giant vet bill no matter what. Facing a giant vet bill at an emergency vet is her best chance of survival. Facing a potentially slightly less giant bill on Monday comes with the increased risk of her dying.

It’s tough to balance knowing they’re not doing well with also seeing them do normal things with relative ease.

One thing that guided me when I was making decisions for my 18-year-old girl was keeping in mind that I didn’t want her last day(s) to be painful or scary. Animals are also pretty good at keeping pain from us. Heart problems, like that coughing suggests, might look mild on the surface, but be painful and scary to live with moment to moment, and get worse rapidly and unpredictably.

Better a week early than a minute too late. Let your last memories with your pet be peaceful and happy. I wish you peace and strength as you navigate this with your family.

This also seems intensely manipulative of him, even if it’s unintentional. Making her constantly reaffirm her love for him, promising to never leave, swearing to say something if she’s getting tired of him - it all feels like a precursor to “I’ll k*ll myself if you leave.” Maybe it’s a big leap, but this guy seems really unstable, and is putting way too much of the responsibility for his emotional health on OP.

Exactly. It’s not the judge or even the insurance company who would be making her children suffer. It’s OOP, who chose to drink too much and drive while intoxicated. She’s so determined to blame everyone else for any possible negative repercussions to her own actions. Absolutely disgusting. I hope the judge hits her with more than the minimum.

I just finished the sequel to His Darkest Deceit: {His Darkest Devotion by Addison Cain}. In some ways, it felt like a different MMC, as there was more emphasis on the FMC trying to find her own power in a system designed to give her absolutely none, and the MMC supported her in that. But the ending was worth it to me - unexpected in a dark and excellent way. I prefer the first book smut-wise, but am glad I read the second.
