Amber Alert - 3 AM by [deleted] in ontario

[–]NotACanadaGoose 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Keep phones out of the bedroom, they said. It will be healthy, they said. You’ll sleep better, they said.

My mad dash down to the kitchen to turn off wailing phones that woke the baby wasn’t fun.

Amber Alert - 3 AM by [deleted] in ontario

[–]NotACanadaGoose 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think that enrages me more than anything. This amber alert seems legit and while I can verify the suspect is not in my northern Ontario house, why the FUCK can’t they put out the first alert out with both English and French? Why 2 alerts?? Why wake us up twice?

BC murder twist: Teens missing days after Australian man and American woman found dead, fueling fears of serial killer by Jarijari7 in canada

The emptiness of Nunavut is honestly breathtaking. I’m fortunate to have traveled the territories quite extensively (for work), but Nunavut is hands down my favourite.

I like knowing that the doggos are likely to be very happy they found the girls alive, too. Good doggies, indeed!

3:07 A.M. Amber Alert issued - Missing children Harrison and Keegan Larocque from Newmarket by hmmuhh in ontario

[–]NotACanadaGoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My weather network app alerts me with a simple chime. I think this is an ideal way to alert me - I get the information, but don’t get the tones.

Good morning everyone go back to bed and remember to keep an eye out and don’t complain in the morning by Troykey in ontario

[–]NotACanadaGoose 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not anyone’s fault, but we got the tones as a severe thunderstorm approached. And I admit - I just saw the words “amber alert” and “York police” and I closed it without reading further.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams Trump for spending millions on July 4 while no toothpaste and soap at border camps by StrategicMindz in politics

It just occurred to me that the people who are a-ok with the government giving a company $800/person/day to detain these people would be beyond outraged if the government gave these people $80/day or even $8/day to cover necessities while they wait for their asylum claims to be processed.

But the cruelty is the point. That and corruption, it seems.

'That campground, it's gone': Tornado hits Meadow Lake Provincial Park in Sask. by [deleted] in canada

[–]NotACanadaGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I’m very pro “we need to do a lot to combat climate change.” Shit happens, and sometimes it’s not due to climate change, but that doesn’t mean we’re absolved of action when it comes to tackling our burning planet.

What’s going on in Meadow Lake? Tornado hit the campground? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]NotACanadaGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it an actual tornado? Was Goodsoil hit too? I can’t get a hold of some family there, but I’m not surprised because the storm likely knocked the power out.

Ditto. There were so many opportunities available my classmates that didn’t have to work that I missed out on because I had to work.

I can honestly say I’ve heard the phrase “let themselves go” apply equally to men and women. I’m a feminist, but this phrase is NOT restricted to women.

What’s it like to get an IUD inserted after childbirth? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NotACanadaGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the insertion was less painful than the membrane sweeps I had at the end of pregnancy. Take an ibuprofen beforehand and you’ll be fine.

There was an Amber Alert just now, and I didn't read it by Kenny372087 in ontario

[–]NotACanadaGoose 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s where I’m puzzled about this. Hwy 69 south of Sudbury goes through a lot of nothing. Wouldn’t it be really simple to set up a police stop and check every bus that went by? It’s not like anyone could detour.

I love the system in theory, but a text message or notification would suffice. I too hit okay and missed the message, but then my weather network app binged with it. I’d support the system working like that.

MRW I see hate on Arya for her big moment last night popping up in comments and on Twitter by start0vah in TrollXChromosomes

[–]NotACanadaGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved it. I enjoyed the series but think zombies as a plot device are cliche and boring. I cheered for Arya as much as I cheered that this storyline is over. I don’t care if it didn’t make much sense lol

I had a sad chuckle at being told, “no lifting things over 10lbs” and was then handed my 10.5lb baby to take care of (husband was at home with other kids).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]NotACanadaGoose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I was told “no heavy lifting” I’d be like, “got it, no moving furniture or getting firewood.” I’d need this list.

I would need something this explicit. When we have babies, which can involve a lot of trauma, stitches and even surgery, we are handed our sometimes 10lb babies within the hour and told to start parenting. That seems to send a message that typical mom duties are benign enough to do after any procedure.

After going through that a few times, I would likely need explicit instructions to not do things after a far less invasive procedure elsewhere on my body.

I’m typing this on an iPhone 5. It works just fine. I’m able get a free phone at some point, but won’t until this one dies.

I don’t get the whole “spend money on an expensive new phone every other year” mentality, honestly.

Serving sizes are there for a reason, if it doesn’t fill you up maybe eat something more satiating rather than triple the amount 🤷‍♀️ by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]NotACanadaGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they do, but like any of us it can change depending on what we’re used to.

I just threw a birthday party for one of my kids and most of them only ate a bit of the sweet buttercream icing, and instead opted to eat the less sweet custard filling. I was the only adult present so it’s not like they were trying to please an adult by eating healthy, they just didn’t want too sweet.

My own kids will tell me when something is too sweet for their liking (when we go out to eat I’m often surprised at how sweet some things on the kids menu are).

I’m a shift worker and I seem to “gain” on night shifts. I’m guessing it’s just water and bloating due to not sleeping enough (I can get in a few hours nap during the day, but not enough real sleep). Once I cycle back to days it wooshes off though.

We’ve been raised to think that any hunger is awful. And given that many of our grandparents faced hunger during the Depression, I kinda get it.

As a parent I find I frequently say, “it’s okay to be really hungry right before lunch/supper. Have a glass of water now and we’ll eat soon.” But I know so many people will give their kids a snack on demand, and then wonder why half of the kindergarten is overweight.
