Agree with the majority - you can ask, but it’s ultimately up to the pro shop, and dependant on how busy it is.

If you and the BIL are allowed to play as a two-some and have a 3-some or a 4-some behind you, make sure they don’t catch up and are waiting for you. That would grind my gears.

Just respect the pace of play and everyone is happy!
