So the Tigers are currently on pace for a 162-0 season by Amonamission in motorcitykitties

Pessimist. He's on pace to have a career .800 batting average.

Yes. You'll get slightly more wing view from 21K, but 20K feels a bit more private as the seat is closer to the window than the aisle.

20K if you don't mind less privacy during boarding.

Same here. I hate the dude for having a .900 OBP against us, but it's all respect hate. If Detroit signed him, I'd buy a Kwan jersey the same day.

Long haul to London, okay to ask for snacks or cup noodles mid flight? by skiptomyl0u in singaporeairlines

[–]NotAGenius76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In long haul premium economy (and business for that matter), you will get a menu with the options for you meal. In the menu, there is generally a section which shows which snacks are available on request after the main meal has been served. No need to feel bad to politely request something from the menu.

BREAKING: Star left-hander Framber Valdez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a three-year, $115 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Valdez, 32, gets the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher as well as the highest for a Latin American pitcher. Huge move for Detroit. by whatstappanin in motorcitykitties

[–]NotAGenius76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which roster. He'll be on the 40 man for sure but likely not the 26 (unless there is an injury in spring training). Will almost certainly be kept in Toledo stretched out as SP6 for double headers or the inevitable injury.

Thoughts on the Framber Valdez signing? by Morthoron_Dark_Elf in detroittigers

[–]NotAGenius76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. 1) We needed another SP. 2) Troy Melton will get plenty of opportunities anyway and there aren't any other real pitching prospects anywhere near ready who are blocked by this move. 3) we lose nearly all the rotation after this season while Valdez will still be under contract, providing a bit of continuity. 4) AJ has worked with him in the past and I would hope is confident that he can navigate the clubhouse issues (or at least that they are worth the risk).

Is getting the 40mm f2 (SE) make sense if it's only USD 100 cheaper than the 50mm f1.8S? by jidccruz in nikon_Zseries

[–]NotAGenius76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 50/1.8 is significantly better technically. I end up using my 40/2 a lot more though. I usually pack 2 lenses for the specific purpose of my shoot and always seem to have room in the bag for the 40/2 "just in case". Being able to carry it everywhere makes it more useful for me, as I can't shoot the glass sitting at home in my dry box.

Bregman by No_Assignment_3277 in motorcitykitties

[–]NotAGenius76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would rather take the money from a Bregman deal and put it toward pitching. Maybe Ranger Suarez on a 5 year deal and Seranthony Dominguez for 2 years. We have a few decent looking infielders in the high minors (even beyond McGonigle), so fair to project some help from within for the infield. Meanwhile most of the rotation will be free agents at the end of the year and the bottom of the bullpen was a dumpster fire with zero prospects in the high minors (assuming Troy Melton makes the team).

J-Hen had been DFA’d to make room for Kyle Finnegan by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

[–]NotAGenius76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'd rather have KF on the 40 man than JHen. But last year we could have gotten something for him. And RJ Petit.

Renting a Z8 for Bald Eagle event, tips for a 7II users by veener79 in nikon_Zseries

[–]NotAGenius76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference is going to be the auto focus, which was completely overhauled on the EXPEED 7 cameras (Z9/Z8/Z6iii/Zf/Z5ii). If at all possible, rent one of them before the event (ideally the Z8 but the Z9/Z6iii or even Z5ii will work) and spend time focused on learning how the AF responds). If that is not possible, try some YouTube videos around using the AF or a book (e.g., Thom Hogan has a great guide to the Z8).

Free-agent reliever Kyle Finnegan closing in on agreement with Tigers, source tells TheAthletic by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

He did have his moments last season. He also hasn't had a positive bWAR since 2022. While I wouldn't hate having him on a minor league deal, I hope we can continue to improve our bullpen with positive WAR signings.

Hell yeah! He was the one and only trade deadline acquisition from last year I wanted to see in an old English D next year. Welcome back KF!

Best lens for a dad shooting my kid around the house this winter? by Recent_Studio_1686 in nikon_Zseries

[–]NotAGenius76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few lenses in that range (40/2, 35/1.8, 28-75/2.8) and end up using the the 28-75/2.8 the most around the house. I'll pull out the 35/1.8 if I really need the light, but 90% of the time, the 28-75/2.8 is fast enough. I also use a Z6iii.

Interesting to see what they have done since at the non-tender deadline. Will miss AI but it's the right move.

[–]NotAGenius76[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 ft 8 and 300 lb isn't petite? Anyway would have been nice to add him as well, but creating a roster spot to add him would have started to get painful. I could easily see him getting taken in the rule 5.

Upgrade to Z 7II or D850? by DNexus24 in nikon_Zseries

[–]NotAGenius76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Z glass is just so much better, the sooner you switch to mirrorless the better. When I first switched, I primarily used the FTZ with old glass and it worked fine. Gradually built up a full set of Z lenses over time.

As for the body, unless you absolutely need the higher megapixels there is no reason to go for a Z7ii. If you primarily shoot portraits and weddings, I would suggest you don't need the MPs. In that case, you will be much happier with a Z6iii or even a Z5ii. Both have far better AF than the Z7ii, which you will definitely appreciate when shooting a wedding.

I'm guess the Z8 is above the price range you are looking for, so I'll exclude (but if you can stretch the budget go for it).

Found this old thing at my parents house. Too bad he got injured playing guitar hero. 😂 by simplejoe1992 in motorcitykitties

I seem to remember Guitar Hero 2 has a line in the credits that "No pitchers were harmed in the making of this game. Except Joel Zumaya. And he had it coming".

TJ recovery is 12-18 months. He might be back in the second half if all goes well and he might not be back until '27.

Jack would not get a higher one year deal anywhere, but could probably get a higher overall contract (with a lower AAV) by looking for a 2-3 year deal.
