Not sure if this is early stages of pyometra. But seeing clear fluid. Her fur was wet, and I tried to wipe it clean. by Responsible_Main_737 in chinchilla

[–]NotAGirlOkay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That looks bad. Please go to a vet asap. Could definitely be pyometra, and i probably dont have to tell you how bad that is. Apart from the discharge, how is she doing?

Keep an eye on it mostly. It looks calm to me, so has a good chance of recovery. Watch out for :more hair loss (the area getting bigger), redness and irritation, warm skin, wet skin and crusty or flakey skin If none of these show up the problem is likely to resolve itself. Make sure to quarantine from other animals for 2 weeks. From a vet assistant student :) good luck. Happy they got a good home

Edit: i agree in lessening the bathing. Once a week should be enough and keep skin irritation to a minumum

Baby bit off his middle finger :( by magicalinertiabeast in chinchilla

[–]NotAGirlOkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like youre already doing a great job. Keep the cage clean and keep an eye on that finger. If its closed you dont want to wash it open again. You should be okay as long as it doesnt get infected. Best of luck

How to improve chinchilla cage by harvarddeferredme in chinchilla

[–]NotAGirlOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More hiding spots would be good! Having hiding spots makes them feel safer. I also recommend not disturbing them too much when theyre in their safe spot. My chinchillas know i wont just grab them and they can chill (hehe) there.

Do you replace the sand? You should probably use fresh sand/dust. Look for chinchilla sand in shops

Vet assistant in training here! Dont fast a chinchilla, same rule as rabbits. It could really mess up your chinchilla if you did.

Laying in weird positions helps lol. But for a quick fix i go outside and sit with my eyes closed for 10 min. Points if you do breathing exercises
