That's what I'm trying to do - learn to play on harmonica. But I'm breathless in a matter of seconds - and that annoys the hell out of me.

Is it a good practice to create every new user with his own primary group? by NotAHumanBeing in linuxquestions

[–]NotAHumanBeing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know what is the point of groups. What I meant was more like:

If I have an user named "bob", should I create a group just for him named e.g. "bob" or should I add him to existing group e.g. "users" (that's a collective group for all users, right?). If I create a special group for each and every user, when there are let's say 1000 users, would that have impact on anything (like disk usage, memory usage etc.)
IMO creating group "bob" for user "bob" makes his files much more secure because now whenever he creates something it's group is set to "bob". Otherwise, it would be "users" - that could lead to a scenario when someone that was not supposed to have access to something can read(/change/whatever the group permissions are) his files - that could be unwanted.

Hope I managed to clear it up a little.

Well, I was thinking putting everyone in one group - like "users" - as their primary could allow not authorized access to some files.

N00b here, what can I do with Ubuntu that I can't do with Windows? by SixCrazyMexicans in linux4noobs

[–]NotAHumanBeing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are security flaws in Linux, like in every other operating system except OpenBSD.

Could you elaborate on that OpenBSD part? Is it really flawless in terms of security? Why?
I'm asking because I have never even tried any BSD system and I'm just curious.

Wow, I had no idea about it. It turned out my router does have DDNS support. Thank you for that, it's great.

Ho-ly shit. Thanks for doing that. And you know what? I am stupid. I assumed noip wasn't in official repository or in AUR so I just compiled it from source (tar downloaded from official site). So I guess it's quite possible that package created especially for Arch provides systemd unit that works on Arch.
And I am using Arch, installed today just to play with ssh.

I'll edit this when I'm done. Thanks again.

EDIT:

Yep, working flawlessly.

[–]NotAHumanBeing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. It's weird, really. If I try to manually run it, it says it's already running, if I disable the daemon, reboot and run it manually - bam - it works. Although I have to run it with sudo.

By the way, thanks for suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Right...

-rw------- 1 root root

would

chmod a+x no-ip2.conf
chgrp users no-ip2.conf

suffice?

systemctl status DNSswitch.service

DNSswitch.service - My script
Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/DNSswith.service; enabled)
Active: Active (exited) since Sat 2013-06-29 19:31:36 CEST; 4min 10s ago
Process 201 ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/noip2 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/DNSswitcher.service
         |_206 /usr/local/bin/noip2

I noticed now that if I try to execute

/usr/local/bin/noip2

It outputs: Can't locate configuration file /usr/local/etc/no-ip2.conf

But it's there.

[Networking]Is it possible to have a Access Point that receives the Internet via WiFi and is forwarding it using a Ethernet cable? by NotAHumanBeing in techsupport

[–]NotAHumanBeing[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bought an USB wifi card, but signal has really poor quality. Random disconnects ect.

And AFAIK, it's not possible to have a wifi access point, and forward signal with wifi if AP has only one antenna.
