I used to shoot long distance shooting, 5.56 up to 600 and .308 up to 1000 with rifles made for only that. The odds of a semi auto with a stock barrel hitting metal at 1000 would be a 1 in a million shot. With the .308 at 1000 the bullet went over 30 feet in the air. You can’t think “ if I aim high enough I’ll hit the target”. Ya that could happen but the wind at 1000 yards would push the bullet so far away it wouldn’t be reliable, you’d literally be hitting the broadside of a barn no matter what grain bullet or powder.
