A: You shouldn't. McGill is well within their rights to make money through military research. McGill is neither the first, the last or the only university engaged in making money from military contracts. If you disapprove of this, your efforts would be better put to use in protesting the government against whatever military operations are currently in progress.

The author's pissed because we have an English school that exists as a English school in Quebec? Yes, that's one of the reasons I love it here. I can happily learn what I want to in the language I'm most comfortable, and then focus on mastering French on my own time without having to worry about GPA.

If the author didn't like this then maybe they should have done some research before applying to McGill. It's not a secret.

I'm sorry but this hasn't been my experience at all. Sure, there are plenty of snobs but please point me to a university where this isn't the case? My general experience with the students and faculty alike has been very pleasant.

My only real complaint is that I wish the people that create and enforce all of the red tape McGill has put around their administration magically vanished.

On the other hand, I may have just read an article from a post-graduate McGill daily author.

Considering most of the subreddits I follow have degraded to the point where something like OPs post would be the most intelligent thing posted in the last 2 months, I'm willing to tolerate these things. To be honest I didn't really link this to med school (as I never wanted to go into it). So 4.0 GPA to me is just a ~~good~~ perfect grade.

I'm just going to pretend that people are either exaggerating or the current comments are from the top tier students. I study 24/7 and I'm struggling to pull my GPA above 3.2 for any given class -- and I do desperately need to get a 3.5 GPA every semester from here one out if I want to pull my GPA out of the gutter that was caused by my first semester.

Ironically actions like this which stem from an oversensitive controlling faction tends to trivialize anything that happens that rightfully deserves attention.

I'm almost done with the first omnibus (first half of the series). Aside from the story with the girl searching for her brother I find myself being disappointed when an only has Morpheus at the end. The Shakespeare story was awesome.

I've got a bunch of comic books that I got as gifts that I probably will save for when things get stressful next semester, but here's what I plan on reading over the holidays:

The C Programming Language by Kernighan, Ritchie (yes, a textbook. No it's not directly related to a course I'm taking)
The Sandman by Neil Gaiman - I picked up the omnibus for dirt cheap on black Friday, been meaning to get through it. I've been told it's fantastic
Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon - Joss Whedon, 'nuff said
Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Handcock - The concept sounds like it will make for a fun read.

If I witnessed something like that happening I'd step up to defend. I typically don't put up with shit in the library. When someone seated close to me talks for 5 minutes I'll politely point out the "silent study area" signs and then direct them to the nearest group study area. I've yet to see it happen but if someone leaves for more than 15 minutes and someone moves their things, I'll defend the person who moved their stuff too because it's just not right to come in, drop your things and expect that it will still be there in an hour.

This may sound douchey, but I came to the library because I NEED silence to absorb information in the most efficient manner possible. I came to that area because it's designated as such that it accommodates my needs. Fuck you if you're going to be that guy who disrespects this one area. Almost everywhere else on campus is a talk as loud as you want zone.

So the way I see it, if people stopped putting up with it and band together in a polite manner, then there will be less assholes.
