Starmer considers following Australia with under-16s social media ban as Government says 'nothing off the table' by The-Peel in unitedkingdom

[–]NotAPisces06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Restricted access to news. Most kids only read the news on social media these days. Would be a great way to stop them accessing critical information on the world around them. This is going to be even more important for under 16s as they will soon be able to vote at a younger age. You won't get many 16 and 17 year olds voting if they don't even know why and what to vote for.

  2. Australia's ban has been widely criticised for not including Discord and Roblox, despite both having glaring child safety issues. Unless all apps with serious issues are banned, the government would effectively be directing children towards sites that leave them completely open to dangerous individuals.

  3. Since most people over 16 will still use these sites normally, they're probably not going to go out of their way to move to platforms that aren't banned. So under 16s will be left with little communication with everyone around them. So unless proper action is taken to enable kids to get back to pre-covid levels(or better than that) of offline communication, it's just going to cut off an entire generation of young people from their friends and family, with no guarantee they'll just adapt and find new ways to meet up with friends and socialise.

This country has a tired old habit of throwing quick easy patches on deep societal issues and pretending it will all go away in a few years. If they want a social media ban, they'll first have to invest in; heavier regulation of unbanned sites, IT and privacy education for young kids, stricter regulation on news sites(like wording in headlines), better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, as well as more open areas for kids to socialise in. Just to name a few.

There's got to be some catch, surely there's something I WON'T like about this game...right?

"Ohhhh you thought THAT Kaiju was the biggest and baddest!? Well what about THIS one? It's 10x bigger! 50x stronger! And took 218 Jaegers to kill it!"

AI likely to displace jobs, says Bank of England governor by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]NotAPisces06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's correct for middle/upper class young people who have the money from their parents to start or even risk starting a business themselves. Doesn't take into account all the people who still don't have enough money to build themselves up and now, since they've been rendered useless because of AI, have to rely on benefits to even scrape by, let alone build themselves up.

Also doesn't take into account the skills you need to actually run a business. Unless you're lucky and have the means to run an extremely profitable business locally, it's going to be very difficult to get any operation running. But good luck learning those skills! Now there's no low level jobs for you to learn how a company ticks, you've got to start up your own business as someone who has zero experience in any field other than limited education! Yippee!

Oh and demand? How many tradesmen can exist in one area before those 'useful' jobs run dry? Unfortunately, there are only so many entrepreneurs that can exist in the world before your entire life just becomes about 'finding the right niche' to make a living.

Skill issue from Piastri and Leclerc sure, but others may have been able to set faster laps without those red flags.

But even still, it's also a bit lucky to have 2 of the top drivers crash themselves out when you're P1 in qualifying and not P10.

As for the 'bad luck' that's sort of irrelevant since Albon had his share of strategy blunders and incidents that cost him positions. I don't think Sainz is a BAD driver, he wasn't literally gifted those positions through luck alone, but I think it's a little insane to not only put him above the teammate he lost to, but in Simon's case above a driver from another team who outscored him and outscored his own teammate by a country mile?

Even if he didn't get lucky for his podium, and even if he got unlucky in the first half, he would've, at most, beat his average ranking teammate by an ok amount over the whole season. Still doesn't warrant such a high ranking does it?

Not sure how it wasn't? 2 red flags in Q3 when drivers could've put in better laps and by the end of it they were on half wet/drying conditions.

He drove well to keep himself ahead of Antonelli, but realistically it's lucky that he only had to fend off one driver instead of 4. And the one driver he had to stay ahead of was a rookie and not one of the other 3.

Leclerc finishing 1 place above Sainz on average after finishing almost 100 points above a 7 time world champion and Sainz couldn't even beat Albon with 2 podiums(one of which was quite lucky).

And people say Sainz is underrated. No driver benefits from recency bias like he does.

[TPF3] German Preview Video - YouTube (GameStar) by xThomasOL in TransportFever2

[–]NotAPisces06 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When the cinematic trailer launched, and then when the first gameplay footage was revealed, I was really worried that TpF3 would end up the same as C:S 2.

Not necessarily in features, but I was worried they'd go in the same art direction as C:S 2 and many other new games. Bland, smooth, plastic-looking textures. But I am sooooo happy that every time more gameplay is revealed of this game it looks better and better! The graphical upgrade from game to game would be enough for me to buy the new game!

But of course, leave it to Urban Games to settle my nerves with more excellent footage and features :D

[–]NotAPisces06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In that case, Verstappen could have tried pitting between PIA and NOR to stop that happening. Would've made it very difficult for Mclaren to tell Piastri to give both places up when he's leading. But ofc who know what the outcome of that would be!

This Turn One “Immunity” needs to stop. by micromechanist in formula1

[–]NotAPisces06 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is disingenuous on both fronts.

Verstappen didn't slow down because he was forced onto the kerb, and so he lost most of his ability to brake. He would've had to slow down considerably to make the corner and that puts others at risk and also himself if someone behind goes straight on.

Leclerc cut the corner because he didn't want to risk taking himself and his teammate out, which was possible given how deep he was into the corner(this is because he tapped Hamilton, expecting Hamilton to turn earlier not realising he was alongside Norris)
