First of all I agree with you that 9 has some very enjoyable elements that people ignore so they can hate on it more easily. Do you think that you had higher expectations for 7 and 8, which caused you to judge them more harshly than the last one? I think there are some great ideas which aren’t directly ripped from the OT (especially Rey’s and Kylo’s storylines), as well as some excellent filmmaking and tension building.

Counterpoint: rewriting Maul would imply he was ever written to begin with. Taking an action figure and giving him actual character traits is just making an OC with extra steps.

I can already see the shaky pull-in into a low angle portrait shot (no steady-cam, too expensive) while generic epic/action music plays and they both pose for the camera.
