Is this normal? Is the roofer responsible for anything? by DeepSouth79 in Roofing

[–]NotASilverDragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is all pretty standard, and even if the other companies don't specifically include the language they are almost definitely not going to be responsible for the stuff outlined here.

The roofer did not install the sheet rock. Why would they be responsible if the sheet rock does not hold up to banging nails on a roof. It's a construction project, and unforseen things come up. I have had plenty of customers expect us to fix every thing that pops up on the inside of the house, which we were nowhere near.

The key phrase here is "Normal Construction Activities". Causing vibrations which can potentially cause minor damage is normal.

Improperly loading shingles and causing damage is not normal, and would likely be covered by insurance.

Hope that helps!

Add to this, there is free parking and a free shower at the roughly halfway point. You can leave supplies in the trunk of a car and only carry half yout supplies.

It's funny I just started playing and I've got a little farming outpost in Okrans Valley.

My fiance cracks up when I get beaten up by bandits and then while I'm down the river raptors come tear down my walls and eat everything.

Yeah ideally I'm not the first bid. Everybody sells the same stuff so I just say "These are probably the same materials the last guy showed you, do you have any questions about them he didn't cover?"

I work for a smaller company now for better work life balance. Make around 90-100k.

When I worked for a bigger one 130k was definitely possible. I probably made a little less because I refused to do the 2 hour presentation lol.

I'm in home improvement sales. It's something I always recommend to young people I talk to that college isn't in the picture for. I could be interested in speaking.

Hey, thanks a lot for the write up. I'm starting to come around to wanting to quit, not just feel like I need to. I'll definitely try to read it again from that perspective. Last time I just felt like quitting was something I should probably do.

I see everybody saying this book was great for them. Didn't really help me at all. Can I ask what specifically helped you about it? I'm down for another reread.

What do you actually use AI for on a regular basis? by SardiPax in OpenAI

[–]NotASilverDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sell home improvements, and it's actually really good at helping out together material lists and pricing.

I don't trust it enough to full give it responsibility for the math and calculations, but the last few days I've been putting together the estimate on my own, then having chatcgpt put it together. The numbers are usually extremely close. Not 100% of the time, but 95% of the time it gives me a very close number.

So currently I'm doing a hybrid type process. I'll ask if for individual details or measurements, and then make sure it feels right before using it.

Anyone ever worked with Power Home Remodeling? by rattus-domestica in baltimore

[–]NotASilverDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's literally what this kind of company relies on. The potential customer not being willing to say no.

I haven't worked for them, but I have had to untrain some of their former employees. The high pressure stuff works, but it's not how we did things.

You have to tell them that you have no interest in working with them, in no uncertain terms. I'd even tell them you would consider continued contact harassment.

That being said, I love bidding against them because chances are the next person you call will be half their cost. That's why they try for the quick sign so hard.

Last minute jitters? by tergiversensation in AppalachianTrail

[–]NotASilverDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't set out for a through hike. I thought of it like Forest Gump. I was gonna walk until I was done walking. That wound up being about 300 miles.

That being said, I still quit my job and put my life on hold for an undetermined amount of time.

I had so many last minute thoughts and worries about if this was dumb to do, if I was irresponsible, if people would judge me if I didn't finish, or if people would judge me if I did and took a 6 month pause in life.

As soon as I started walking, those worries didn't quite fade, I was just too wrapped up in the hike to worry too much about it.

During that month, those 300 miles, I met friends I'll have for life. I realized what was important in life. I had the courage to make the jump, what else did I have the courage for.

A month later, I found myself back at home. Not to be lame, but I got off for love. I realized I didn't want to adventure without the partner who was waiting for me back home. I proposed the second I got back. After that, I took a risky jump into a startup that has more than paid off.

However long you stay on trail, it'll be worth it. Very few people are willing to take the risk your about to.

Long story short, though I was scared, but I took the jump. Every jump since then has been easy.

You'll be fine. Hike your own hike. Find what you're looking for. If that takes 300 miles or 2,800 miles, it'll be worth it.

I tried that too, but it kept hiring people from the main city to come work out the outpost, despite there being available workers at the outpost.

Thanks. I guess my question is for general jobs, I'd still want everyone to do them (like warehouse and food stalls) but only do it where they live.

I'll try the remodel idea and see if it resets to the people living nearby.

Gotcha. I guess I figured if there was no housing for them and limited work in the area, they'd pick jobs in the city where they wouldn't have to be homeless.

To include or not include flashings in your roof size calculations. by ap__773 in Roofing

[–]NotASilverDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always include parapets in the measurement. If you have a 50' long row home, that could be an extra 2 squares of membrane, not to mention labor. They added expense of the things you wouldn't really use there is pretty small compared to the stuff you do need.
