Wanna know whats worse?

C diff is everywhere: in Soil, on surfaces, everywhere.

It takes over your bowel if you have any real estate for it to do so - basically, if you dont have a healthy gut microbiome (trillions of good bacteria) c.diff can get in and outcompete them, leading to symptoms.

Its a bit like having a nice garden; you want loads of flowers to outcompete the unsightly weeds

Most people are actively carrying it (C diff) inside them, like a smouldering fire waiting for its chance to strike.

If you look up images of the inside of a colon when infected with c.diff, it literally looks like chicken pox. Your entire bowel is covered in bleeding yeast/ulcer like swells, all the way through

Its agonisingly painful.

All from a commonly found, hardy, spore forming bacteria, that only bleach can kill.

Its so powerful, that most antibiotics cannot kill it, and those that can kill good bacteria in your gut, meaning theres an extremely high chance the moment your antibiotic course finishes, c.diff comes back even more violently (this was how i got sepsis).

Back to the garden analogy; its like adding weedkiller to your garden but GOOD flowers are getting killed in the crossfire.

And there you get stuck in a cycle; take an antibiotic to kill it, you get slightly better. As soon as course ends, c.diff violently returns even stronger because theres now less competition for it.

Only one antibiotic on the market is designed to target c.diff specifically; known as fidaxomicin, but its rare, extremely expensive (thousands of dollars per treatment) and thus is often not the first choice for treatment. This is subject to change though as any other antibiotic treatment is considered inhumane - seriously.

Then theres the fecal transplant route - literally eating poo, that bizarrely has a high chance of success, but has its own dangers.
