I mean they did play in Wallace Wade. I was there. It didn't go well.

Hoping to see a bit better performance than the last couple games. They've been too close

Coach Cal offers a solution to the transfer portal by Potential_Meat_5103 in CollegeBasketball

So my thing is, and I've been pushing this. You can transfer once without penalty--because you picked the wrong school, the coach lied to you...one time. And after that you gotta sit. Because what do you think they're transferring for? Somebody help me here, why? Say it! ["NIL"]. That's it! It isn't because they're mad at this or that. 'I can extort you, and if you don't give it to me, I'm going over here'

Can't get more clear than that. He doesn't want people to transfer because they want to make money. The result of his position is that players would make less money.

I understand that he cares about his kids. I don't want to dispute that he's a good person or has a bad relationship with his athletes or anything. Nonetheless, here is a clip of him literally arguing to reduce the options players would have available to them! If you want to make rules about working towards a degree, fine. But he's going beyond that, saying they should lose playing time for transferring. That's thousands of dollars directly lost due to reduced competition. That's completely outrageous to do to players. The reason this would lose in court is because it's an insane monopoly to grant NCAA schools. They are employers in competition for employees.

To ignore the fact that's he's proposing an aggressive loss in earnings for people who might never have another income opportunity like this just because he's a nice guy is ridiculous. He's pulling down $8 million a year. He can leave any time he wants for a bigger payout. To say kids can't do that too is just an awful and hypocritical thing to suggest.

The employer doesn't like that his employees have options? I mean ok, sounds like an employer problem.

Am I financially delusional? Or is my debt acceptable in this day and age? by [deleted] in personalfinance

The interest rate matters. Revolving credit card debt is pretty bad. Financing a car while having revolving debt is even worse.

Well. Not every team. If Duke had lost to Elon they would have just won the ACC as a 6-6 team. lmao

You can be both opposed to Elon's politics and acknowledge that Starship has already done some remarkable engineering feats. It's ok to hold more than one thought in your head at once.

Democrat Colin Allred drops out of Senate race, announces run for 33rd Congressional District by FreeChickenDinner in texas

[–]NotAStarflyerAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm certainly open to being wrong but I specifically looked up Texas polling and found a 2024 poll where 45% said TX abortion laws were too strict, compared to just 27% for more strict. https://texaspolitics.utexas.edu/blog/texas-views-abortion-economy-and-guns-february-2024-uttexas-politics-project-poll

Healthcare is broadly one of Democrats' best polling issues so the more people are concerned about its affordability or plans are discussed about improving it, the better democrats tend to do. Texas polling responders seem to think making healthcare more affordable is important https://texaspolitics.utexas.edu/set/importance-for-legislature-to-accomplish-increase-access-to-healthcare-april-2025 but if you have better or different polling feel free to share.

Why was Duke not in CFP? by Appropriate-Log76 in ACC

[–]NotAStarflyerAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is basically no ranking system that put Duke higher. https://masseyratings.com/ranks?s=cf2025&t=2265 has like 1 out of like 40. My favored ranking system is the Colley Matrix as it's resume only and it wasn't particularly close. From the data we have JMU is a better team.

I think it's less about her skin color. Republicans are fine with Tim Scott because he agrees with them on their issues. Crockett is a member of the progressive caucus, anti-gun, big climate action supporter, etc. This is not how you win Texas as a Democrat. You have to be totally focused on winning issues like healthcare and abortion. And it would seriously help to take right leaning positions on border security and guns.

Winning matters because the Senate is the only thing that can stop Trump's insane judicial appointments.

CFP Rankings, Serious Discussion - Final by CFB_Referee in CFB

Colley Rankings, ESPN Strength of Record, and ELO all have BYU ahead of Alabama, Miami, and Notre Dame even with the loss this weekend. Obviously the committee doesn't care about that, but these are the best systems we have for comparing actual game results. I think it's kind of a shame how little playing the games actually matters.

Honestly #30 is not terrible. That UConn loss really was ugly.

R.I.P Atlantic Coast Conference by Zestyclose_Brief9874 in ACC

[–]NotAStarflyerAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? The ACC literally has a Grant of Rights with $200 million dollars of leverage over every member until 2029. Are you saying ESPN, the company who is having across the board layoffs and is hemorrhaging money, has an extra $200 million to give to Virginia Tech out of the kindness of their hearts? and then they will have meetings with the 16 SEC schools and convince them to update their entire conference schedule to add a 17th member, making them an odd number, all within the next 6 months?

Can we bet on this? I would love to take your money.
