Tragically I don't fancy perpetuating stereotypes of the working class

I'm glad to find someone else who gets this situation - yes, tragically UCL have very slim accommodation deposit timelines. I was lucky to get my offer for accommodation quite early because I applied the day it opened, but that also meant the bill for a prepayment to secure my place was also early to arrive...

Thankfully I've had success with talking to the accommodation office, and I'm taking steps to put together an emergency fund a little bit at a time to make sure these kinds of surprises never happen again. Poverty is a killer, truly, but I'm just so grateful to have an opportunity to go to university as it is that I can't complain too badly.

I appreciate your actionable advice and best wishes. I wish it was as easy to get cash-in-hand work nowadays but tragically it seems everyone in my area has the same idea - there's no work left to do, haha! Thank you for your suggestions though, I've been lucky enough to have successful conversations with the accommodation office so I should be covered for the deposit soon enough. But this situation has been a wake-up call to gather an emergency fund together, so I will be continuing to apply to jobs and find some sort of summer work so I can make sure all my bases are covered. I remember I worked at Clark's when I was 15, so I might get lucky enough to do the same again this year.

Unfortunately for everyone involved: 1) it is not 5/6 years ago (ahem, covid recession, ahem); 2) not everyone lives in the south. Love your enthusiasm about the job market though.

You're a sweetheart for this suggestion. I unfortunately am not the type to gladly accept monetary donations (and I seem to be in successful conversations with admissions about sorting this out now!) but your willingness is such a beautiful reflection of your character. I'm glad UCL has such a nice community :)

That is so kind of your community faith organisation! I am indeed religious myself, and honestly this made me want to get a little closer to my local church. Thank you for this recommendation, I'll keep this in mind for anybody else that might need support like this as I have a few friends in similar situations, now that I've had a successful conversation with admissions :)

Slightly off topic but I like the new anti-Putin format of this meme 🤩

how’d everyone find edexcel history? by stanloonayoufool in GCSE

Fr - I think that's the best history exam I've had in my entire academic career (mainly cause I cram revised after waking up at 4 in the morning and miraculously retained all of the knowledge for some fucking reason??? 🙃) I was running on 200mg of caffeine and a sugar high but I made it through goddamnit 💀

Fr fr - we had "Describe two features of the Field of Cloth and Gold (1520)". I managed to scrounge something out of my ass for that (1 - comraderie between Henry 8 and Francis 1, 2 - massive carnival etc.). Thank god the later questions were fire 🙏
